I raised an eyebrow linking him. “You mom is still going to hear you.” Matt ignored me and explained the venue change. Ted looked crestfallen. Lexi immediately jumped in offering solutions. Ted looked glad he had something to do. He immediately jumped up to make plans.
Matt linked me, “She’s a very good friend and Luna.” I hadn’t taken my eyes off Lexi but agreed, “Yes, she is.” Isabella said, “Oh and Lexi is apparently a mandatory guest. Anne was insistent she come. She said she’s the only one who can keep the peace.”
Damn it. I was going to take her out since everyone was going to be busy. I had another restaurant I’d planned to shut down. I’d have to wait for another night. Lexi didn’t seem thrilled she was needed but accepted it quickly. She highlighted the problem with the grandparents.
Matt linked me, “So, there’s literally no way this dinner goes well.” I admitted, “It doesn’t sound like it.” My hackles were up when I heard where they lived. Nashville. Matt linked me, “It sounds like they retired.” I agreed, “It does but I think we have other problems. The woman who cried over a mouse being released outside doesn’t like them.” Matt said, “Yeah, I’m stunned too. She’s like Mrs. Cleaver.”
I finagled my own invitation to this dinner. Matt linked me, “But really, you have to come. I need to know someone at the table can actually stop me from killing these people.” Lexi added she could stop him. Matt linked me, “Debatable.” Bolt disagreed, “I don’t think so. I think mate could stop him.” Yes, because he wouldn’t shift if she tried.
I doubted she was bringing weapons to dinner and human on wolf would be a tough ask with no weapons. Plus, she wouldn’t want to hurt him, and she didn’t like these people. Then there’s the little known fact that she’s his Luna. He was destined to protect her. But I’d let him have the thought if it made him feel better.
Ted returned with the food situation fixed. He was beside himself. I did not like this version of him. He was scattered, worried, and somehow defeated. It was unsettling. They discussed a maid service, and I nearly laughed out loud.
Matt linked me, “As if a maid service could make her house cleaner. My mom could win a catalog prize.” I pointed out, “They don’t know that, and are trying to be nice.” Matt responded, “Be that as it may, I’ll kindly NOT tell my mother they offered.”
When I told Lexi I loved her, her heart skipped a beat. Matt asked, “Has she said it back? Ted said she’s super guarded.” I snorted, “She has but it’s a secret we can’t tell Chase.” Matt cackled in our link, “She told you that night they got hammered with Ted, Sally, and Haley then?” I nodded, “Yes, she also said it after the tenth orgasm I gave her today, but she didn’t seem to be aware she said it.” Matt laughed, “Maybe you’ll get an aware I love you on your romantic Virgin Island getaway.” I smiled agreeing, “Maybe I will.”
After Lexi and Ted had planned every last possible detail for a Valentine’s day mating ceremony, we left. Ted perked up when I reminded him, without saying directly, he’d be speaking to Wallace in the morning. Maybe we just needed to give him tasks all day tomorrow to keep his mind off the family dinner.
We raced home. Lexi had a few steps head start. I slammed the door shut and tackled her onto the sofa. I had to steady it, so it didn’t topple over. I discovered my mate was ticklish, so was I. Our pups were screwed.
We both stared at each other as our breaths came in gasps. I loved her. She was at the very core of me now. I needed her, and I didn’t want to rush. We lazily made over while groping each other through our clothes. Everything about her drove me insane. Her little moans and the smell of her arousal were almost my undoing.
I thanked the Moon Goddess when Lexi lifted her shirt off over her head. Even more praises when she threw off my shirt. We’d been making out so long her lips were swollen. Lexi started teasing me with her words. Bolt was sitting at attention in my mind when she mentioned dreaming about him when he’d protected her from Henrick. I almost ripped her shorts off when she mentioned that night I was outside as she pretended I was with her.
I was a fan of her Hood speed during sex. After what felt like minutes, we both stopped rocking on each other. I stared into her eyes. I was going to take her my way this time. I was about to flip her onto the floor when a large explosion sounded outside.
Lexi jumped off of me, and we looked out the window. I growled at the man outside it had to be Noah. Matt linked me, “WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?” I ordered, “GET HERE NOW! THE DEAD MOTHER FUCKER JUST TIPPED THE SCALES IN MY FAVOR.” I linked the pack, “Non-warriors and pups head to your safe spaces. Warriors be ready. Kincade, Kevin, get to me NOW!”
My dad linked, “Chase, where are you? I’m coming.” I ordered, “You guard Nadine and Susie. Stay where you are!” He growled but I knew he would do it. I watched the witch, who was convulsing in pain. Noah tried to help her, but he was thrown back for his efforts.
Which saved his fucking ass. I took a step forward intent to rip him to pieces, he was dead. Matt linked me, “Ted’s on the loose with a gun. Damn he’s fast. I’m right behind him. I saw Kevin and Kincade running too.”
Before I could react, Lexi screamed, grabbed my shirt, and took off out the front door. Ted had managed to shoot the witch. Sadly, he missed Noah. I was a step behind Lexi. When I came into view Noah almost faltered as he ran away. He clearly had an escape route planned.
I shifted and Bolt winked at him making his face contort into rage as he ran. Matt linked me, “Wow, if looks could kill. You and Bolt would be dead. Lexi is going to catch him.” I wasn’t so sure, “He’s got a plan. Let’s fuck it up.”
We didn’t make it though. Noah disappeared. One second he was there, the next he was gone. I growled. Ted and Lexi were darting all over. I shifted back. Kincade threw me shorts. Matt commented, “It reeks of magic, it’s a holoport.”
I growled, “Someone get me answers about HOW THE FUCK HE GOT IN HERE! Matt, have my father in my office first thing tomorrow.” Matt cautiously said, “Chase, he wouldn’t do this. He’d never hurt her…” I ordered, “Office. My dad. First thing.” Matt nodded.
I linked the pack, “Non-warriors and pups may resume regular activities.” Derrick replied, “Awesome. Now is when we tell Derrick what the HELL that explosion was.” I growled, “The dead motherfucker trying to get around Haley’s magic.” Derrick snarled not any happier than I was.
Lexi was shaken that they knew where she lived. I wasn’t a big fan of that either. Lexi flashed away and I followed her. Matt linked, “Just an FYI should you get a wild hair to fuck her right now, you did NOT close the door.”
I growled at him but said nothing. Bolt growled, “Mate thinks we are mad? That did not cover my feelings appropriately. Noah was in our territory, and he was not dead. He should be dead. He should never have gotten in.” I agreed.
Lexi called Haley. Haley quickly figured why Lexi was asking questions, to say she was insulted was an understatement. Derision practically dripped from her tone. I could hear Alpha Eric trying to calm her down. He kept calling her Angel, but she was not calm; not even slightly.
Eventually I couldn’t stay any longer. If I laughed Alpha Eric would hear me. I joined Matt outside and was finally able to laugh. Even Kincade and Kevin were laughing. I linked Matt, “Even Alpha Eric has to be laughing at this point.”
Matt was trying to relay to Ted what was being said. I didn’t even try. It was too damn funny. Matt managed to say, “She wants to go back to burning them at the stake.” That sobered me, “Where is the witch Ted shot?” Kevin linked, “We took her to the dungeons. She’s keeping Wallace company. He arrived early.”
I rolled my eyes, “Tell me they are far away from each other.” Kincade confirmed, “They are.” I started laughing again because Haley wanted one of her brothers to declare war. Matt linked me, “I can see it now. The Fairies declaring war with dark witches. A.K.A Haley kills witches while the Fairy King does nothing but be entertained.” I laughed, “That’s exactly what would happen.”
Haley was going to show up at some point to make the protections stronger. Lexi said she’d join Haley in her killing witches campaign. Matt said, “My god, I’m terrified of team Fairy/Hackura and Hood uniting. The dark witches need to run and hide. Really fucking well.”
I laughed, “They do. If Haley knows the Black Arrow obviously Lexi does too. If those three teamed up….” Matt held his hands out. He linked me, “I can’t breathe. That is the ultimate dream team. Throw in Luna Emmaline and they would dominate. God, I want to see that.”
