Even if someone followed me here, I had to invite them in to see it. Blade could find it and so could Haley, but that was it. This was my place, and I didn’t want anyone to take it from me. Haley popped us inside.
I got the drinks rolling. We laughed and talked for hours. I said, “I don’t want to go on a mission this long again.” Haley smiled, “Then don’t. Your brother won’t give you an assignment like that again if you don’t want it. Bjourn texted me and said Heath is losing it. He’s upset that you left angry.” A part of me felt guilty, but I was still pissed.
She asked, “Would you like your bridesmaid gift?” I asked, “Excuse me?” She sheepishly admitted, “I was going to ask you to be a bridesmaid. I called and got the Troll. He didn’t pass my message along to Heath. If only I hadn’t promised not to kill him.”
She trailed off before adding, “Don’t worry though I went full hijinks on his ass again.” Heath was going to have to do some serious sweet talking to convince not to kill his Lieutenant. Haley conjured my gift. It was so sweet. I told her, “I would’ve said yes.” She looked so cute when she visibly relaxed. She was worried I’d say no.
I told her all about how I felt about everything. Haley’s eyes brightened as she asked, “ Do you know what you need?” I laughed, “What do I need?” Haley answered, “Something for your damn self. You do Hood missions for your brother. You made the Black Arrow feared to make him proud. You are the approachable leader of the Hood for your people while Heath doesn’t have a mate to stand in that role. You need something besides this house for Lexi.” She might have a point.
She clapped, “You always loved coordinating and planning parties. You helped me in the Hackura realm sometimes. You love planning parties almost as much as I do. You have the contacts. You could work for supernatural’s and keep your Hood schedule. You have that friend, TeleTed.”
I nearly snorted. Haley came up with his nickname because he couldn’t keep a secret and she’d just been told about telephones. So, she named him TeleTed. He adored the name and it stuck. In fact, everyone loved it.
Haley continued, “He hates missions, but LOVES organizing things. Does he still pine after Harper’s boytoy lover?” I laughed, “He just thinks he’s hot, Hales.” Haley said, “Right. He could keep everything on track while you still take missions.” I bit my lip. It made a lot of sense, and I was actually considering it.
Haley squealed, “YOU SHOULD DO IT! You could help me plan partial fairy events to get you started!” I laughed, “You don’t need help with that. You can snap everything you want.” Haley shrugged, “It would be nice not to have to deal with it. I’ve got A LOT to do now. There’s Eric and the triplets. I have pack disputes and all the Luna duties, plus my partial events, and my Hackura duties. I can tell you the vision and plan, then you could coordinate food, event spaces, and all those details. I’m sure Eric could pass your name around to some people too!”
I thought about it then asked, “You really think I can do it?” Haley’s eyes sparkled with excitement, “FUCK YES YOU COULD! Come on! Let’s call piner of Harper’s boytoy lover, TeleTed! I’ll even pop him in to join us, and we can organize EVERYTHING!” I laughed, “His name is still Ted.” She shrugged and grabbed my phone, “It’s TeleTed.” Yes, it really was.
*Flashback ends*
I was brought out of my memories by Ted walking into my office. He greeted me, “Hey girl! You look a million miles away.” I admitted, “I was just thinking back to when this was just an idea. Now we have clients, events, and an office.” Ted smiled and sat down, “I’m just happy to finally contribute to something to the Hood. My parents are through the roof proud.”
I pointed out, “You helped Sally in the kitchens before this.” Ted shrugged, “I did. You convinced her to be the caterer for enough events that she can start her own business now too. She’s so excited.” I sighed, “She wants to talk about something. I’ve been so busy I haven’t been able to catch up with her.”
Ted told me, “She’s been doing better. The catering business is lifting her spirits. I catch that signature Sally smile sometimes.” I nodded, “Good. Get a meeting with her for the morning.” Ted agreed, “Sure. Are you going over the menu for the fairy event this weekend?”
I said, “Let’s call it that.” Ted laughed, “You’re hijacking a work meeting to talk about personal things. I like it. I’m glad you’re doing this. It’s about time you did something for you, girl.” I laughed.
Ted asked, “Why did you pick this place though? I thought you’d pick the hotel right outside the castle our dear Princess now lives in.” I frowned, “I wanted to, but there’s something about this place. I just know I’m supposed to be here. I know I live right over in another pack’s territory so it’s close to home.”
Ted smiled, “The Goddess works in mysterious ways, I guess. Maybe she put you here so I could meet my string. Or yours. Though you’ll have to spend more time outside that fairy charmed house that conceals you to find him.” I laughed, “It better be both our strings because we are a package deal.” Ted stood agreeing, “Damn straight we are!”
I smiled and walked across the street to the cute little coffee shop they had here. This weekend was our first big event. We’d had several smaller ones, but this one was big. Haley’s event had over two hundred people coming. I was going to stay here all weekend to make sure it went well. I’d been staying at my little house which was, as I told Ted, not far from the office. It was ideal.
I grabbed a coffee and went home. I texted Haley frequently now. I’d only missed a few months and the woman met her mate, got married, got abducted, and pops out babies. Texting her often was clearly a must. Heath was happy I was finally over being mad at him for the whole debacle. He’d given me a break on missions when I told him what I wanted to do. He was proud I was starting my own business. Most people were.
I was certain our people didn’t think I heard the rumblings going through the Hood. I did though. I knew the Lieutenant was pissed, which made me love it all even more. I got to my house, then changed my mind. I wanted to stay at Haley’s.
I looked lovingly at my home. I loved it because no one could sense me here. Haley had magically protected my house on several levels. It was because of my ex that I’d wanted to be sure no one to be able to sense me in my little home away from home. I was feeling more confident lately though.
I knew he would NEVER walk into Haley’s home. He would not risk Alpha Eric killing him. I texted Haley, and she was all for me staying over as Lexi. I had met her friends and Alpha Eric recently as BA. We’d had a girl’s weekend. Haley called it our bad ass girl gang. It was amazing.
I smiled and got back in my car. For the first time in three years, I wouldn’t be magically concealed in this area. For some reason that just felt right. I drove to Haley’s and unpacked my overnight bag. She’d already had a room all ready for me when I arrived.
I didn’t officially meet Alpha Eric as Lexi, but he was the same with her as he was when I was BA. I know someone like Alpha Eric wouldn’t fear BA as some do, but I was afraid he could put on airs in front of a Hood member. He didn’t though, and he truly loved her.
After Haley was done kissing him, we went to my room. I nudged her, “You look so happy with him.” Haley smiled, “I am really happy. I love him, and our little family.” I smiled, “Your kids are stinking cute.” She giggled, “Aren’t they?”
We chatted for several hours before she wandered to her room. I was restless for some reason. At two in the morning, I gave up and went to grab myself some food. A voice from behind me asked, “Can’t sleep?” I whirled putting a hand over my heart, “Marcus, you scared me.”
Marcus asked, “What’s wrong?” I knew I was important to him because I was important to Haley and Logan. I should call him. I’d been so busy that I hadn’t had a second. He’d met his mate, and I knew he had to be on cloud nine. He’d been waiting so long, and I owed him my congratulations.
I shrugged, “I’m just nervous about the event, I think.” Marcus assured me, “It will be a success. You and Haley have gone over all the details numerous times.” He smiled and left me alone in the kitchen after that.
I checked the time. It was almost three in the morning. For some reason, I felt compelled to go outside. I could feel everything in me desperately wishing for me to walk east back towards my house. After fifteen minutes, I couldn’t stop myself; I ran. I could be back here in minutes. Every Hood member could outrun any supernatural. We were that fast.
I stopped when I reached the border of Haley and Eric’s territory. I frowned. The hotel was about ten miles from where I was. There was nothing here, but a wolf had obviously been here. There were paw prints just across from where I was standing. I sighed. Maybe staying at Haley’s was a mistake. Maybe I wasn’t ready for people to sense my presence.
