“That’s a lot, Santo. And I think you should maybe consider talking to her, maybe find out her side of the story, even if it’s just for closure,” I tell him, “Not for her, but for you.”

“I don’t need closure. You just said it yourself. A mother doesn’t leave her children.” He pulls me onto my feet and unbuttons my shorts.

“I said they wouldn’twantto leave. Sometimes they don’t have a choice.” I step out of my shorts and reach behind my back to unclasp my bra when Santo slaps my hands away.

“I like unwrapping you. It’s like Christmas every fucking day.”

“Well, do you think you can pretend it is actually Christmas and speed up the process a bit? I’m eager to get to the part where you play with your present.” I match his smirk with one of my own.

Santo groans. “Fuck, Aria, when you say shit like that to me, it’s hard to think.” My bra hits the floor, quickly followed by my panties. “I’m glad we have forever together because I’m never going to be done playing with you.”

“I love you,” I tell him.

Santo presses his lips against mine. “I love you,” he says. “So fucking much it scares the shit out of me.”

“We can be scared together.”

“As long as we’re together, we will overcome anything. I will always fight for us, Aria. Always.”

“Good, because I’ll be right by your side, fighting along with you.” I wrap my arms around Santo’s shoulders and pull his face down to mine. Kissing this man is like coming home after a really long holiday. It’s comforting and exhilarating all at once. It’s also something I’m going to happily spend the rest of my life doing.
