“Is she coming back?”

“Brenna said she was, but she also said that Celine is heartbroken and if she decided to stay, it wouldn’t surprise her.”

Killian sat back in his chair and shook his head. “I didn’t know anything about it. We’re not talking right now.”

Beau took a seat in the chair across from him.

“Don’t you think you need to?”

Killian blew out a breath. “I was going to go to her shop today.”

“Can you get past it?”

“So, you know what happened?”

“Brenna told me. She wasn’t happy with Celine either.”

“Would you be?”

“No. I cannot abide liars, but there had to be a good reason for her to keep it from you. I don’t know what it would be, but you need to talk about it.”

“It’s hard, Beau. I’m crazy about her but I can’t have her hiding things from me, then lying about it. She didn’t trust me enough to tell me he was in town.”

“Yeah, well, like I said, you need to talk.”

“I agree. It’ll have to be after she comes back.”

Beau nodded, got to his feet, walked to his desk, and sat in his chair.

“Killian, I want you to check this horse theft out. It’s in Hartland.” Dave placed a folder on his desk.

“Yes, sir.” Killian opened the folder, then checked the computer for more information.

Dave liked the old school ways. Although the files were on the computers, he liked the reports on the thefts printed out. None of the agents cared, as long as Dave was happy, they were happy.

“What do you have?” Kian asked him.

“A missing horse in Clifton, close to the Hartland County line. You?”

“Some missing cattle in Spring City.”

Killian grinned. “We’re going in opposite directions.”

Kian chuckled. “I’m going to head there now. Let me know when you get back, maybe we can grab lunch. I’m addicted to those burgers.”

“Who isn’t? I’ll shoot you a text. I need to head out too.”

When the elevator opened, they steppedinside, and Kian pushed the button for the lobby. Killian folded his arms and leaned against the wall.

“What’s going on?”

“I just found out that Celine is in Spokane.”

“For good?”

“Beau said Brenna doesn’t think so, but she also said it wouldn’t surprise her.” He shook his head. “I was going to stop in her shop today and see when we could talk.”

“Damn. I’m sorry, Killian.”
