“No, but it’s not like he got hurt.” Envy laughs, adding, “He just needed to chill after all of that adrenaline.”
I’m furious she would do that to him and then take advantage of the situation. “So, Foster unknowingly took drugs?”
“Chill out. It was obviously fine.”
I slam my hand down on the desk, “He drank alcohol, Envy! Do you have any idea what kind of effect drugs and alcohol have on each other? You could have fucking killed him.”
She rolls her head back, laughing like a maniacal villain. “Oh my God, do you have to be so fucking dramatic? It’s none of your fucking business, anyway.” Envy stands up, getting in my face.
“It is my business.Heis my business.” I reply, rage boiling inside of me.
She crosses her slender arms over her chest. “You’re trouble. I see past your bullshit, Skyler. Stay away from my crew. I’m not joking.”
“I don’t have any idea what you’re talking about!” I scream, and Kate pulls me back a bit when I lunge forward.
“Oh! He didn’t tell you?” She cackles again, doubling over. “Of course he didn’t. Why would he ever want to burden perfect little Skyler with anything.” She rolls her eyes, and my first instinct is to rip the green from her hair, but I’m not a violent person. Not yet.
With a swift motion, she rips her phone from the comforter. “I’m out of here. I’ll come back when she’s fucking gone.” Envy remarks, her black boots heavy against the ground as she stalks out and slams the door shut behind her.
“What was that about?” I look to Kate in utter confusion, and she shrugs. I can’t help but pace the room, “She drugged him! What kind of friend does that and acts like it’s no big deal?” I’m hurt for Foster, and my anger drips away in puddles beneath me.
After hours of Kate calming me down and funneling Chinese food into my mouth, I pull out my phone and text him. I’m not going to blame him for the actions he did under the influence of something he didn’t want.
Me: ‘Okay, so I MAY not lock my doors tomorrow.’
He sends a little ‘hmm’ emoji.
Foster: ‘What about practice?’
Me: ‘I’d rather see you.’
Foster: ‘See you then, Freckles.’
I can’t help but smile at my phone like an idiot at the thought of us being alone together. But we’re definitely going to have a talk.
Fifteen
‘You’re not stupid, Skyler. You just need to figure out what’s really going on.’
I sigh, pulling a brush through my blonde hair and picking myself apart as I try to decide what outfit to wear.
“You also need to quit talking to yourself in the mirror,” I suggest to myself one last time before deciding on a pink skirt with a tight-fitting black t-shirt, one that I have in my closet from years ago.
Foster hurt me, he did, but how can I ignore the butterflies that swarm through me when I see him? Shit. If anyone mentions his name, they create a storm inside of me.
I know there’s more to him; I don’t care what anyone says. It’s the truth. I can see it in his eyes, and I can’t explain how powerfully I’m drawn to him. We’ve both seen darkness, but I just hide mine with diamonds and pearls.
He hides his with a shitty attitude and a matte black helmet.
My phone rings. Kate’s calling.
“Happy birthday to you!” she sings off-key, making me laugh. “What are you doing?” she asks, clearing her throat.
“Nothing, you?” I lie as I try to apply a little more blush to my cheeks, not that I need it. Every time Foster utters a single word, it makes my cheeks redden.
Kate chuckles into the phone, and I can imagine her grin as she shakes her head. “I told you at school, it’s all going to be fine.” Our entire gym class was spent with me explaining everything that happened at the party while she was a bit ... hammered. Minus him kissing Envy in front of me and then me kissing Callum.
I need to understand his side of things before I get outside opinions on the situation.
