“Come inside,” Finn said, his grin wider now. “We want to show it to you.”
I followed them into the house. Every room was carefully arranged, warm, and inviting, but the bedroom was my favorite.
It was large, but it wasn’t just the size that took my breath away. It was the nest in the center of the room—a large, soft nest that filled the space. It was more than just a place to sleep. It was a symbol, a promise of safety, love, and home. It was where I would relax for the rest of my pregnancy. It was where we would all cuddle our pups.
It was our future.
“It’s perfect,” I said, tears springing to the corners of my eyes.
I wiped my eyes, a little embarrassed by how emotional I’d become, but I couldn’t help it. My chest felt tight, full of something that might burst out if I didn’t say it, but I couldn’t find the words.
August’s hands gently cupped my face, his thumbs wiping away the last of my tears. He leaned in, pressing his forehead to mine. “We can’t wait to share this with you.”
“Forever,” added Finn.
“We love you, Elisabed,” Marshall said quietly.
I nodded, still a little choked up, and let their words settle in my heart. This wasn’t just about them, me, or even the future of the packs. It was about us. Together. I’d never felt so sure of anything in my life.
A moment passed, and then Finn couldn’t contain himself anymore. “Come on, there’s more,” he said, reaching for my hand. He led me to a lovely, warm kitchen.
I was looking around happily when the pantry door flew open, and a small figure burst out and right into my arms.
“Mily!” I cried, holding her tightly. “When? How?”
“Your parents arrived yesterday,” Marshall explained. “They’re just here for a visit, but we hope they’ll decide to move here. Of course, it’s their decision. If they don’t want to move, we’ll have Mily stay as often as they allow.”
“I hope it’s always!” said Mily, hugging me happily.
August’s gaze softened as he looked at my sister and me. “You’ve both been through so much, and I know it hasn’t been easy. But this home will be our future.”
Marshall smiled at Mily. “Yours too, Mily. This is just as much your home as ours.”
The thought of how all of this began—the way we met, the challenges we’d faced, the way I fought to protect my sister and the way they fought for me—made me dizzy with emotion. I never thought I’d have a chance at a life like this, a chance to truly be loved by three powerful alphas, and yet here I was.
But there was still a question lingering at the back of my mind, one I couldn’t seem to shake off. What would happen when winter came? What would happen when we all went our separate ways as the territories settled into their own routines again?
It was a question that I knew they must have thought about, a question that none of us wanted to face, but I couldn’t keep it inside any longer.
“What happens now?” I asked, my voice small and fragile, like I feared the answer might shatter everything I’d allowed myself to believe.
“We’ve already planned for it,” said Marshall.
“Planned for it?” I repeated, my brow furrowing. “What do you mean?”
August stepped beside me, his hand brushing mine in silent reassurance. “We’re not going anywhere, Elisabed. Not without you. We’ve made arrangements to merge our territories—to make them one, under the leadership of the three of us.”
My breath caught in my throat. “Merge? All three territories?”
I couldn’t imagine the work they put in to make that happen. The temporary merged territory they had was created just until they overthrew the council. They each still had their own territories to look over. Pack alliances were already tenuous because of the power struggle between the pack alphas, but they had put that aside for the sake of our family. My mind raced with the implications of such a large change.
“But, wouldn’t the other packs disagree? And your people, how did you get everyone to agree to this?”
Finn chuckled at my overthinking. August smiled, pride shining through his eyes. In the end, it was Marshall who answered. His expression was serious now, his voice full of resolve. “We sought the approval of the other leading alphas. They all know we kept sane during the fight because of you. They trust you can keep us grounded, and they know we aren’t planning to dominate the other packs through this merge. Our people were wary, but the resources and stability brought to the territories from the alliance and new omegas coming in won them over. We’re thriving more than ever by standing together.”
The enormity of what he was saying began to sink in. It was a monumental shift that would ripple across the entire territory, and through the fabric of my life. For so long I had been part of a disjointed and fearful pack, but now I would be part of thelargest pack existing. I would get to know everyone who pledged their loyalty to my three alphas.
I would have a community.
