The whole kidnapping thing shocked me –

But I guess Alessandra got over it because she started sleeping with Dario a week after she arrived.

For somebody who didn’t know anything about sex when she showed up, she sure moved fast!

Because she had a good teacher. Ha!

The one time I got mad at her was when she looked at my phone when I wasn’t around (I was probably in the pantry with Valentino, ahem) and then ran away.

Niccolo asked me questions afterwards.

He acted all nice, like he was just concerned…

And then he got angry.Veryangry.

I was already nervous around Niccolo after the way he acted when he hired me.

Let’s just say that getting in trouble with himoncewas enough for a lifetime.

I was very put out with Alessandra after that, but she was incredibly apologetic, and I forgave her.

It worked out for her, though, because the errand I demanded she do as penance led to her sleeping with Dario for the first time.

That girl…

Like a cat, she always landed on her feet.

Ithought I was keeping it on the down-low with Caterina –

Especially compared with Dario.

Once he started sleeping with her, you could hear Alessandra screaming in his bedroom from just about every corner of the house.

But apparently I wasn’t being quite as careful as I thought.

Niccolo came to me one day and said in irritation, “What would you do if I ordered you to stop seeing that kitchen girl?”

Shit.

Not a good situation –

But I did what any good player does in a situation where he’s caught:

Deny, deny, deny.

I put on my best poker face and said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Niccolo smiled sarcastically. “Let me remind you, then: I’m talking about you fucking her in the kitchen. Specifically thepantry. You were a bit more discreet when she first started and only did it in the early morning hoursbeforeanyone else showed up for work – but now it’s starting to get out of hand.”

My stomach plummeted.

SHIT.

“I’m not going to stop seeing her,” I said, a warning in my voice.
