Osian smirked and mimed zipping his lips.

"I'll get it out of you later." I raised an eyebrow at him.

Onyx smiled. "You can try."

"Challenge accepted. Now cut your cake."

Onyx laughed and pulled a knife from the utensil drawer. He cut us each a piece of cookie cake and spreadthe pieces across the plates Osian gave him. Osian passed one to me and handed out forks.

"Does anyone want ice cream? We have some in the freezer."

Both demons shook their heads no.

"This is good," Onyx said. "You really didn't have to do anything."

"Yeah, we really did. It's a special day. We had to celebrate."

His gaze met mine. "You didn't have to. You're the only being that's ever thrown a party to celebrate my birthday."

I frowned. "What kind of childhood did you guys have?"

Onyx smiled. "Not a human one. That's for fuckin' sure." He took a bite of his cookie cake.

"Well, I celebrate every birthday so you're in for it every year."

A soft smile broke across Onyx's face as he chewed. "Looking forward to it," he said.

I clapped with excitement. "Hold on. Osian and I have something for you."

"You don't have t—"

I was already gone from the kitchen, in my bedroom getting the gift bag off my bed.

I carried the black gift bag into the kitchen and set it down in front of Onyx. "Wave three."

Onyx looked between me and the gift bag. "You don't have to get me anything."

"Open it and enjoy."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Open it."

Onyx watched me as he picked up the gift bag. Osian shifted on the stool beside him and crossed his arms. He looked pleased with the gift.

First, Onyx pulled out the hot sauce variety pack I'd chosen. He raised an eyebrow and grinned. "I am tempted to see how well they did on this 'From Hell' version."

I laughed. "I thought you'd like that."

The next thing he pulled out was a World Whiskey variety pack featuring five different whiskey types from around the globe.

Then he pulled out a whiskey tumbler set that could be stored in the freezer for chilled but non-watery alcohol.

Onyx looked stunned. "Wow. This is perfect. ...I don't say this often but thank you. Really."

He turned and hugged Osian, then he was off his stool and hugged me.

I wrapped my arms around him and said, "I'm glad you like it. I had to flip a crazy religious lady off at the store to get some of it for you."
