Page 40 of My Guardian Demon

"I found the demon who made the deal. He's been eliminated. Eston is in hiding, though. I've spent the last week checking all his usual haunts. He hasn't shown his face. Once he dies, he's damned no matter what. He sold his soul for this address. I can't wait to kill him, though." Onyx grinned at the thought.

"Onyx!" I scolded him.

"What? It's true." He gave me a devilish smile.

Onyx turned the burners off on the stove and plated up bacon and eggs. He put a piece of the toast he'd already browned on each plate. He carried over and slid plates in front of Osian and me, then went back for his own.

Osian dug into his food like he'd never eaten before. Had I fed him enough while he was here? Surely, I had. He'd never complained. Plus, he cooked half the time, anyway.

Onyx leaned his back against the counter and tucked a piece of bacon in his mouth.

He chewed and swallowed, then asked, "Has it been quiet here?"

"Yeah, nothing exciting has happened here. Osian has been teaching me some new self-defense moves and taking me to class. Routine stuff."

Onyx picked up and took a bite from his toast. "Glad to hear you two are getting along. Osian can be difficult."

Osian raised an eyebrow and launched his fork at Onyx's head. Onyx ducked and grinned. The fork clattered onto the counter behind him.

"Kidding, kidding," Onyx said.

Osian rolled his eyes and turned back to the island to drink from his coffee.

Onyx gestured to me. "She must like you, Osian. She'd never let me get away with throwing a fork like that."

Osian made a huff in his throat that sounded like a laugh and held his fist out to me for a fist bump, which I returned.

"I see how it is. Wynn stole my best friend." Onyx took another bite of toast and chewed as he thought about it. "I get it, Osian. I'd rather have her than me as a best friend, too."

Osian flipped Onyx off. He finished his breakfast with his fingers and licked them clean. He drained his coffee and set the mug on the counter. Then he stood, crossed the kitchen, pretended to grab a handful of Onyx's balls, blew him a kiss, and headed into the living room.

Onyx laughed. "Asshole," he called after Osian. A responding grunt came from the living room.

I said, "You know, I could never steal your friend. He loves you. Why else would he agree to hang out with a random chick for a week while you were gone?"

Onyx's expression softened, and he walked over to me. "I know. He knows I'm teasing." He kissed me.

He had my legs wrapped around him and my back to the counter before I knew it.

I broke the kiss. "Onyx. Onyx. We can't right now."

He nuzzled his face against my neck. "Why not?"

"We have to figure out what to do about Eston. Plus, Osian's in the next room."

He kissed my throat. "Osian won't care. In fact, he'll probably join in the fun if you ask nicely."

I pressed a hand to his chest and pushed him back. "I get that you're a sex-deprived demon and are trying to focus on your pleasure but can you please concentrate on the plan right now? We have to figure out what to do about Eston."

He perked up. "That wasn't a no."

"Onyx."

He shook his head. "Sorry. Are you sure we can't have a quickie?"

"Unfortunately."

"Fiiiine." Onyx removed himself from between my legs. "Plan. Focus on the plan," he said to himself.
