I shook my head and shrugged it off as I moved away from her. I didn't need any of that magic hanging on.

My gaze focused on the changed werewolf ahead. He looked human in shape but fur covered him and a distinctive wolf snout peeked from his face. I didn't even know it was a full moon, but apparently it was. Changed werewolves tended to be unpredictable and flighty.

I sighed. I'd only wanted to find out who made the deal with Eston, not engage with a werewolf. Hopefully, this one was reasonable. I drew a deep breath and hoped the werewolf had my answer.

"Excuse me, sir," I said.

The werewolf growled. I couldn't help it: my eyes flashed red, and I growled back. The werewolf jumped from his chair and charged me.

"Eep!" I heard squeaked from across the room.

I caught the werewolf and fell to the floor, holding him off me as he lunged for my throat. Holding him off wasn't a challenge. I didn't want to fight with a werewolf; I wanted to find Eston and whoever he made a deal with and get back to Wynn. But while I didn't want to get kicked out of the record room for killing this werewolf, I wasn't sure I had a choice.

As I was about to snap his neck, someone cried out, "Wait!"

The pixie appeared over us. She sprinkled pixie dust over the wolf's back. The effect was immediate. The werewolf stopped trying to attack and climbed off me. He held down a hand to help me up.

I took his hand and let him pull me to my feet. He let me go, and I stood by his table.

"Sorry, man," he said. "My hormones are all over the place during the full moon. I couldn't help myself."

I nodded at him.

He nodded at the pixie. "Thanks."

"You're welcome. Happy to help." She flew back to her table.

The werewolf turned his attention back to me. "What did you need?"

I cleared my throat. "I was going to ask if you have book H527 by any chance."

He shook his head. "No, I don't. Sorry. None of my books are Hs."

"Gotcha."

An embarrassed expression crossed the werewolf's face. "Again, sorry I tried to kill you."

I half smiled. "Don't worry about it."

I walked away. The werewolf was already gone from my thoughts.

Where could that book be if no one was using it?

I left the room and went back to the counter. It took a minute before the same clerk I'd spoken with before noticed me.

"Yes?" he said and approached the front counter. "What happened to you?"

My shirt was torn, and my hair mussed from my wrestling match with the werewolf.

I shook my head. "Nothing important. I'm looking for book H527. It isn't on the shelf and no one in there has it."

"Hmm. Let me see."

The clerk moved to a computer behind the counter and typed on a few keys.

"Book H527 was sent for repairs to the binding. It's scheduled to be back next week, if that helps."

I groaned. "That doesn't help. I need to know who made a particular deal ASAP."
