"That's a great idea."
He grabbed a fistful of hair at my scalp and pushed me toward the hallway by my hair. I winced and stumbled forward.
My mind raced. Maybe I could get away. I'd practiced fighting for months. Make him hurt and get to the gun.
I swung my elbow back and cracked him across the nose. I heard a crunch. He let go of my hair. "Ow, you bitch!" he yelled, touching his nose.
Before I could move, he grabbed my hair again and yanked. "You're going to pay for that."
We stumbled into the bedroom, and Eston flung me onto the bed. I shrieked and sobbed as I landed on the mattress.
"Shut up, bitch. You're being too loud." Eston cocked the gun. I screamed and turned away, covering my head with my arms and trying to make myself as small as possible.
I heard Onyx from the foot of the bed. "You really think that's a good idea, Eston?"
"Whoa, where the fuck did you come from? How do you know my name? Shit, what the fuck is wrong with your eyes?" Eston asked, panicked.
"That's right. Point that gun at me. See if you can kill me before I rip you apart."
I rolled off the far side of the bed and onto the floor, away from Eston.
"Who are you?" Eston demanded. "Wynn is mine. I saw you try to make a move at the pool. It's not happening. I'll kill both of you."
Onyx chuckled darkly. "Big words. I'm your worst nightmare. I want to torture you so badly before I kill you. Maybe I will. The torture rack is right next door."
I peeked over the edge of the bed as I wiped tears from my eyes. Onyx's normally black irises glowed red, and he smiled like a maniac. Blood still covered his clothes.
Onyx said, "I've waited for this for so long. I gave you the benefit of the doubt for Wynn's sake and I didn't seek you out, even though I wanted to. But now you've sought her out. And you pointed a gun at her. Not only pointed, but intended to kill her. Courtesy won't save you anymore."
Eston fired at him. Onyx took the shot point blank to the chest and smiled wider. "Shoot me again. I dare you."
Genuine fear crossed Eston's face, and he backed toward the wall. He unloaded his full clip into Onyx's chest. Onyx didn't even blink. Eston cowered out of my sight to the floor.
"Wynn, you okay?" Onyx asked.
"Yes," I sniffled out.
"Good. Say your goodbyes to Eston if you have any."
"I hope it hurts, fucker," I spit.
Onyx grinned at him and disappeared from my line of sight as he knelt to the floor. I heard, "You heard my girlfriend. Yeah, that's right. Mine. My girlfriend. Rest assured, I'm going to make it hurt. Fucker."
Onyx stood, pushing Eston up the wall into a standing position by his neck. He kept going until Eston's feet were suspended above the floor. Eston clawed at Onyx's hands frantically, trying to breathe.
"Wynn," Onyx said as he stared at Eston. "Do you have any injuries that need attention? Are you okay by yourself for a few?"
"I'm not injured. I'm okay."
"Excellent. Good girl. And great job breaking his nose." He tightened his grip on Eston's throat. "I'll be backsoon, little one. I have to take out the trash." When Onyx and Eston both disappeared instantly from my room, I gasped.
Knowing about the filter now, I didn't want to listen to whatever noises Eston made as Onyx tortured him. Quickly, I shut the bedroom door and walked to the living room. I locked the front door. Afterward, I sat on the couch and used the remote to turn on random TV reruns. I grabbed a pillow and hugged it. Blankly, I stared at the TV.
My ex had tried to kill me. He got into my apartment, pulled a gun on me, and intended to end my life. My current boyfriend, a demon, was torturing him, eventually going to kill him.
How was this my life? I used to have a normal, boring existence.
I rested my head on the back of the couch.
