He looked uncomfortable. "Not intentionally. But it's in my nature to inflict damage so I can't make guarantees."
I rolled my eyes and moved to the kitchen. I laid the gun and ammo on the counter and got two cans of soda out of the fridge.
"That's more honesty than my last friends had. Don't leave on my account. I want you to stay."
"Really?"
"Really. But it's up to you." I walked back to the living room, handed him a soda, and plopped down on thecouch in front of the TV. I grabbed the remote from the coffee table and began flipping through the channels. Finally, I decided on a cooking show. I popped open my soda and slurped the foamy carbonation as I started watching.
Onyx slid onto the couch beside me. "If I'm staying, we aren't watching this shit. Give me the remote."
"Say please."
He rolled his eyes. "Please."
There was the confidence from earlier. I handed the remote to him. We ended up on Netflix, where Onyx startedLucifer.
We watched the show together late into the evening, eventually ordering Chinese takeout.
Despite his being supernatural, I was comfortable around Onyx. He felt like an old friend. He seemed more comfortable with me, too. Though he still hadn't told me his species.
When midnight rolled around, we found a good stopping point for the show and Onyx rose to go home.
"What do you have planned for tomorrow?" I asked.
His eyes turned to me. "Nothing definite," he said. "It's a rest day for you. I figured we'd work on your hand-to-hand Monday evening. I haven't made any plans."
"You can come back over here if you want. We can watch more TV and chill."
Onyx raised his eyebrows. "Did you ask me to Netflix and chill?"
I laughed. "I guess I did. More Netflix, less chill."
He smirked. "That sounds great. I'll be here. G'night, little one." Onyx headed for the door.
"G'night, Onyx."
He smiled at me sadly and disappeared out the door with a lingering look at me, as though it might be the last.
* * *
It was not a last look, much to Onyx's surprise. Onyx and I spent another lazy day watchingLucifer. He found something extra funny about the show, although he wouldn't share what it was. We also played 20 questions and Uno on the couch.
"It's been a good day," I said as I laid down a green 8.
"Agreed," Onyx said as he laid down a draw four. "Red," he declared.
I put down a draw two, a reverse, another draw two, and a red number in retaliation. I grinned.
Onyx gave me a glare and a half smile, contradicting each other. "I think you're part demoness."
"Oh I am, huh?"
"Possibly. You've got the evil streak. You'd be a natural if you were."
I smiled wickedly. A few more rounds had me calling "Uno."
Onyx laid down a simple number card, and I laid down my last card, a wild.
