What was that supposed to mean? Not scared of him? Should I fear him?

"Wait, what? Explain yourself."

I followed him.

Onyx said nothing, simply opened the passenger door of his car. He ignored my questions and protests. He handed me my purse after I sat down, then he shut the door.

Onyx circled the car then climbed in. He deposited his jacket in the backseat, checked my seatbelt, buckled himself in, and started the car. He slid his sunglasses on and backed his car out of its spot.

I stared at him. He seemed completely unconcerned. "You can't ignore me. What did you mean?"

"Are you hungry? The place I have in mind for lunch will exceed your expectations," he commented as though I'd said nothing.

"Onyx."

He sighed. He stayed silent for a moment, as though he weighed his options before he finally said, "I will tell you. I promise. But not right now."

I groaned and leaned my head back against the headrest. "Fine. I'm holding you to that."

Onyx nodded. "Okay. Are you hungry?"

My stomach picked that moment to rumble. I blushed when Onyx grinned at me. That smile... How could anyone be so handsome?

"I'll take that as a yes," he said. "Good. You'll want to be hungry for where I'm taking you."

"Where are we going?"

"You'll see."

Soon, Onyx pulled into the parking lot of an inconspicuous brick building. No sign outside announced the name of the restaurant.

"Where are we?"

"Best diner in town." Onyx shifted the car to park and turned off the ignition. "This place will satisfy your cravings."

We climbed out of the car and went into the building.

It looked like a standard diner. Happy patrons sat around the diner laughing, talking, and enjoying their food.

We seated ourselves at a table and settled in to wait for our server.

When the server came — a short, smiling young man — instead of menus, he slid drinks in front of us.

"A rum & coke for the lady and a Dr. Pepper for the gentleman, with a shot of scotch on the side. Your food will be right out."

He bowed and left the table.

I stared at the crystalized plastic cup holding my drink for a moment before my eyes traveled to Onyx. The server got my drink right; I'd been craving a rum & coke. But how? "But... He didn't take our order."

Onyx looked amused. "Don't worry. Enjoy your drink. The food will be great."

Something was off. How had the server known about the drink? Would I like the food? I had so many questions.

"How do you know? What's going on?"

Onyx smirked. "Trust me." He took his shot of scotch and made a pleased rumbling noise in his throat after he swallowed. He set his shot glass down and looked at me seriously. "What's Eston's last name?"

I rolled my eyes and looked at him with exasperation. "No. Can we please move on from my ex?"
