Wynn
I put in my earbuds, cranked up my playlist, and rested my head against my pillow. I closed my eyes and tried to ignore the steady pounding and the loud moans coming from the wall behind my head. They'd already been at it for 45 minutes.
At least someone was getting some. I hadn’t gotten any since I broke up with my ex, Eston, who turned out to be the world’s most pain-in-the-ass stalker. It had been a while.
But if this became a regular thing, I might have to sleep on the couch. Anywhere that didn't share a wall with the wallbangers next door.
Welcome to the neighborhood, Wynn.
The one-bedroom, off-campus apartment was cute and clean. It was only a five-minute walk from campus and the library. Most importantly, it fell within my student budget. Perfect. Or so I'd thought. Apparently, I didn't factor in paper-thin walls or frisky neighbors. The apartments were reverse mirror images of each other, side by side, two to a floor, with an adjoining wall between the bedrooms. Apparently, the same wall where both our beds were.
"Yes, yes, please, yes-" the woman shrieked and moaned, loud enough I could hear her over my headphones.
Damn, my new neighbor had skills.
I tried to tune them out and made a list on my phone of everything I needed to do tomorrow: attendorientation, figure out my class locations, go to the bookstore, stop at the grocery store... then I listed all the groceries I needed.
Then her climax hit. "Oh fuck yes, Onyx!" she squealed. There were a few more hard thuds against the wall.
I waited a few seconds then cautiously removed an earbud from under my blond hair. The thumping had ended, and the room next door was finally quiet.
May as well introduce myself.
I sat up and turned on the lamp beside the bed. I banged my fist against the wall and cheered. "Way to go, Onyx, you stud! Wooooo!"
I heard a low chuckle from the other side of the wall.
"Sorry," someone said, "I didn't know you'd already moved in. Next time, I'll try to keep the noise down."
"I'm guessing you're Onyx?"
"Yes."
"What's your girlfriend's name?" I called out to her, "Sounds like you had a great time, honey!"
"What girlfriend?" he asked.
I listened closely but didn't hear anyone else in the background.
"Umm... the chick who was screaming your name and keeping me awake two seconds ago? That girlfriend. What's her name?"
Another low chuckle. "That's no one for you to worry about."
"Not a girlfriend then?"
"Girlfriends aren’t my thing. Don't worry about her. She's gone. She won't be back."
"Damn, you two just finished! Did you install an ejector or something? ‘Bam, done! Out the window!’"
He laughed. "Are you always this nosy?"
"Yes."
A chuckle. "Good to know."
