“We need to behead him and burn the body. Then we have a human to dispose of.” He nodded his head toward the hallway. “I’ll take care of this if you want to shower. We then have a human assistant to find.”
I bowed my head in appreciation and headed toward the bathroom. I needed to think about capturing the human assistant, but my mind was back on the adorable redhead with the nose piercing.
Chapter 23
Osian
“How’d you meet the soul eater?” Onyx demanded.
The man sobbed too much to answer.
“How?”
The man kept crying.
“Fine. Here’s an easier one. How’d you pick the victims?” Onyx asked.
The assistant was stretched in the torture rack, hands shackled above his head and feet shackled at his ankles.
Unlike his boss, the man begged and pleaded for his life. He looked like a preppy student, with neatly trimmed brown hair and perfectly trimmed fingernails. The guy had been dressed in a pressed button-up shirt and slacks, perfect before we’d grabbed him but now smeared with blood.
“How?” Onyx demanded again. He stabbed the man in the thigh.
The man screamed, and more tears ran down his face.
“I’m a—” He sobbed. “A resident advisor at the college. I picked students from the school.” Another sob.
Onyx ran the knife blade down the front of the man’s shirt and ripped it open.
“Well, you fucked with the wrong student. Now you have to pay.” Onyx sliced lines along one each of his ribs on one side.
The man screamed.
Onyx tsked. “Scream as loudly as you want. No one’s coming to save you.” Onyx got close to his ear and whispered loudly, “We already killed your boss. In the same spot you’re in right now. No one knows you’re here.”
The man sobbed and begged for his life. Unbeknownst to him, he was asking the wrong beings.
Onyx sliced cuts along each of his ribs on the other side. The man cried and sobbed.
“There, now he matches,” Onyx said happily.
Onyx laid the knife on the surgical table.
“Shall we drag this out?” Onyx asked me.
I shook my head. I wanted to get back to N.
Onyx turned back to the prisoner. “Sorry, looks like we’re hurrying this along. Too bad.”
Onyx stabbed him in the shoulder. The man screamed.
“If it were up to me, I’d cut your fingers off one by one. Make you beg for mercy for hours. But my brother wants to get back to his woman. Who you abducted, by the way. Big mistake.”
“What are you?” the man asked between sobs.
“Demons. We’re demons. So glad you can see us.”
Onyx tilted his head to the side then grinned devilishly. He turned to me. “Can I torture him while you go back to N? Please? Compromise?”
