“Can we be both? Friends and lovers?” It’s a sincere question.
“Friends, lovers, soulmates, I can be whatever you need me to be.”
“It’s crazy, Ols, but I think I’ve fallen in love with you.”
“Well Ms Crazy, I’m in love with you as well.”
When she finally presses her lips to mine the last bit of tension falls away. My happily forever has just found her way back to me.
“Won’t you get bored without new adventures every week?” I hold my breath waiting for her answer.
“You are the most alluring adventure I could hope for.”
Epilogue
Keeley
Idrag the bagsup the stairs to Oliver’s flat. I bought way too much, but what can I say? I panic shopped.
“Hey,” I call as I drop all the bags next to the door.
“Hi love, what’s all this?”
“Retail therapy,” I say before placing a kiss on his lips. Oliver is cooking dinner and it smells delicious.
“Did you go and see the cottage?” he asks whilst stirring a pot of pasta.
“Yes, I love it, but it’s too small.” I dip a spoon into the sauce, blow on it and then slide it into my mouth. Mmm.
“What do you mean too small? It has a bedroom and a room for you to use as an office. The kitchen and living room are decent size and the garden is also great,” he frowns.
“Well, blame mighty Ollie, but we need a third room for the baby,” I throw in casually before sneaking away from him. I pick up the bags and head to the wardrobe, determined not to look at him. If I don’t see his reaction, maybe I won’t feel so anxious. My nerves have been in tatters ever since the doctor confirmed I’m pregnant. We’ve been together for just under a year, and having kids was never on the agenda. We’re both over forty, for heaven’s sake—I honestly thought we’d moved past that possibility. But clearly, he’s got some kind of Houdini sperm that can defy the odds and sneak through a condom.
I’m suddenly whipped into the air when Oliver scoops me up. I scream in surprise and the bags slip from my grasp.
“What are you doing?” I protest.
He drops me onto the mattress and climbs over me, caging me between him and the mattress.
“What are you saying, Sunshine?” His eyes are intense.
“That… I think… no, I know… well, the doctor confirmed, I… we are having a baby.”
“A baby?” he whispers and gently places his hand on my tummy. I put mine over his and push it downwards to the actual spot where our child is growing.
“Yes… Sorry?”
“Why are you sorry?”
“You’re right! Why am I sorry? It’s your bloody sperm that did this,” I huff.
“Are you unhappy?” His eyes bore into me.
“No… no. Maybe a little scared, but not unhappy.”
“I’m not unhappy either. Maybe, I’m actually really happy,” he grins before kissing me deeply.
“I really hope our daughter will be a ballbuster like you,” he chuckles.
