I wasn’t nervous the next morning because my father and I were meeting Jesper and Luren. I was worried that Thea seemed to have no idea that her father proposed a peace treaty with us. What was the point of it now after he had been so adamant against it? It was a trick, no doubt. But would he attack us now or wait until he thought we had our guards down?

My father glanced at me as we approached Luren and Jesper’s camp. Our men were waiting in the woods out of sight. Thea would never allow us to get hurt either. My nerves were on high alert when I didn’t see Thea standing with them. I glanced around the camp, hoping to see her, but I didn’t.
