My gaze snapped up at her. “Don’t defend him. He knew. He’s selling us out. And for what? A million bucks?”

“Try ten million. And a venture that will take LB Industries global.”

“Maybe he knows what he’s doing.” Matt finally spoke.

“This isn’t over. What if I come up with the ten million?” I had no way of getting that kind of cash, but I had to do something.

“It’s more than the money. It’s about getting a seat at the big table, a way for LB to bid on hotels overseas.”

“You agree with him?”

She let out a breath. “I’m on your side, Ela. You have to trust me.”

“This hotel isn’t for him to use as a bargaining chip.”

“I’m sorry. I honestly didn’t realize this hotel meant so much to you.” She put her arm around me and exchanged a look with Matt. “Unless you figure out a way to show your dad has no claim on the Baroness, this venture will move forward.”

I pulled back and wiped my tears on the sleeves of my blouse. The Baroness was all I had left. I couldn’t lose it. “How long do I have?”

“Thirty days.”
