LEVI

HER PINK, POUTY LIPSlooked kissable. Man, was she a knockout. Hands at her sides, lying in the hospital bed, she reminded me of a beautiful princess. That was Rocco’s nickname for her.

Shoving my fingers through my golden-brown strands, I towered over her.

“Ryah, it’s Levi. The nurse said you just got out of surgery. And to let you rest.”

I sat at her side and caressed her hand. Every time she placed her hand over mine, I wanted to hold it in place. “I hope you wake up soon. I miss kicking it with you. We make a hell of a team minus Rocco. He hates me and I don’t care. Soon he’ll be out of the picture and I’ll have you all to myself. That’s how it was meant to be. I’ve been patient. Waited to make my move.”

I felt my lips twitch. “Guess I should formally introduce myself. My name is Lando Levi De Bello Levine. Your boyfriend took my mother’s severed head to my aunt’s house and threatened my family. Told them to never come after the De Bello throne again.” A deep, dark chuckle released from my throat.

“You all thought the war was over. That was just a warmup. When I turn twenty-five, I’ll rise up and rule Philly with my queen at my side. That’s you, Ryah.”

I pressed my lips against her cheek. “See you at school, baby.”

Turning on my heels, I ran a hand over my navy blazer and strolled into the hall. I peeked both ways. The coast was clear.

Clad in a black suit, my burly cousin bounced off the wall. “Are you ready to go?”

“Yup.”
