I rubbed her leg, laughing. “No. I’ll feed you, soon.”

“I have a feeling Professor Marx will give us a pop quiz next week,” she sighed.

The sky opened up, and the rain poured over the windshield like a flowing water faucet. The wipers moved across the windshield at top speed, clearing our view. “That’s why I suggested we bring our books and study for at least an hour a day. Because one of our professors was bound to pull that shit right before finals.”

“In a way, I don’t mind. At least I’ll know what I need to work on or if I’m on the right track.” She stared out the window.

“True.”

“Doesn’t look like the rain will let up this time.” Ryah shook her head.

“Yeah, the rain sucks, but we won’t let it put a damper on our trip.”

“Nope.” Ryah smiled.

“Are you coming over for Thanksgiving?” I asked.

“I don’t know. My grandmother asked me and mom to come over for dinner. We rarely see my grandparents. Remember last year, we visited Aunt Minka and her family?”

“Yup.”

“We’ll see her on Christmas. You should join us, again.”

“Yeah, sounds good.”

“I can’t invite you to my grandparents' house. Granddad’s still in shock after seeing us together at graduation. He said I’m following in my mother’s footsteps. You know, taking up with a gangster,” she sighed. “He doesn’t know I’m a gangster, too. I don’t want to hear him bash you all day.”

“How about you ride with your mom. I’ll pick you up an hour after dinner.”

Ryah’s eyes lit up, and she clasped her hands together. “Yes, rescue me.”

“I’ll come in and speak to your family.”

“Rocco, I’m warning you, Grandad’s going to tear you a new ass hole.”

“It’s ok. I’ll take it as long as you’re leaving with me.”

She beamed. “That would be fantastic. Thanks, babe.”

I massaged her neck. “Not a problem.”

Turning into the parking lot, I peeked at Ryah again, this time to gage her reaction.

“Rocco, what are you up to?”

“You’ll see.”

hand in hand, we walked through the stadium.

Ryah looked up at me. “You said we had a job to do.”

“The job was searching for properties.”

She laughed. “Oh, ok. This was worth flying for.”

Pressing my lips against her forehead, I smiled. “I thought so. This was the perfect trip to get you back in the air.”

“Despite being drugged, it’s been nice. I enjoy cooking breakfast for us in the morning instead of ordering room service at a hotel.”
