Please forgive me, baby.
Adjusting my mirrored aviators on my face, I scanned my surroundings before climbing onto the yacht.
“Rocco.” Levi approached, wearing an expensive tan suit. His hair was slicked back. He looked like what he once called me and my friends, rich. Now, he fits into our circle.
He embraced me. “Are you ready for a fun evening?”
“Indeed, I am.”
Levi nodded at Agosto.
“I don’t remember you carrying guns so openly at school.”
We walked deeper into the boat. “They were concealed. I couldn’t walk around Princeton University campus toting guns.”
“Comes with the life, huh?”
I stood with my back to the cherry wood wall in the stateroom.
“What life is that?”
“Come on. We had this discussion back in school. I told you I looked you up. I must admit living in Philly and hearing people talk about the four families all the time...” he shook his head, “...is certainly different from reading the hearsay in a newspaper article. It’s almost like the people in that town fear you.”
I ignored his statement.
The boat moved away from the dock.
“I thought we were expecting the other guys to join us.”
A buff man appeared and sat on a nearby tall leather stool. His smug, serious face didn’t go unnoticed. He was Levi’s muscle.
The tiny hairs stood all over my body.
“We’ll return soon. It’s time we chat.” He stepped over to the bar.
“Would you like a drink?”
“Not right now.”
“You really are possessive when it comes to Ryah,” he chuckled.
There was an eeriness about him. He was calm, cocky, and confident. The last two traits he hadn’t revealed until now.
“Of course, I am. She’s, my woman. And next year she’ll become my wife.”
Another creepy laugh rolled out of his throat.
“The day of Ryah’s motorcycle accident, after Luciano’s men had carted you off, I visited Ryah.”
He turned, sipping a whiskey.
The motherfucker was with my woman alone.
By now, all the color I was sure had drained from my face.
“She was resting like a beautiful princess after surgery.”
“Even though she was unconscious, I formally introduced myself. I should probably show you the same courtesy. But I won’t.” His eyes darkened.
