Dad and I had met with Luciano and the other bosses several times. There was still a bit of tension between us, but there wasn’t a chance in hell Luciano would hold me prisoner and keep me from Ryah again. I’d say he learned his lesson. It was now water under the bridge.

Sometimes, Ryah and I had dinner with Jeremiah and Genevieve. I was shocked they salvaged their relationship. They took a year-long relationship break. They dated other people. Then came back to each other during their last year of college. Yeah, that wouldn’t have worked for me. No breaks in our relationship. Ryah and I were a forever couple.

We still hung out with our normal crew: Josh, Mara, Gian, Bosco, Faith, and Alejandro. We moved our parties to Gian’s house. He bought a mansion in the suburbs. He was a bachelor with tons of unused space. Perfect place to party. If we were too drunk to drive home, we crashed in one of the seven bedrooms. Gian said he loved his neighborhood because there were several plastic soccer moms to play with.

Bosco was dating a new chick off and on. He never brought her around us. He had a few girlfriends over the years. Nothing long lasting. This chick was different. His mood was all over the place. One evening, I went to his house to pick him up for a job we had planned. Low and behold, who was sitting in the living room? Maze. Her big, round, dark eyes widened as they locked with mine.

Awkward.

Bosco’s heavy hand patted my back. “Rocco, I’d like you to meet Maze.”

She extended her hand, grinning nervously. She pleaded with her eyes for me to go along with it.

“Nice to meet you, Rocco.”

I smirked, squeezing her hand. “Likewise.”

Maze didn’t know Bosco, and I were friends. Bet she had a ton of questions.

I noticed Bosco didn’t introduce her as his girlfriend. What the fuck was going on between them?

Rocco, mind your business.

“Bosco, are you ready to go do that thing? Or, will it be just me and Gian, tonight?” I quirked a brow, staring between him and Maze.

“Bosco, I better go.” She batted her long lashes up at him. “I need to get back.”

I didn’t ask questions.

“Nice to meet you, Rocco.” Maze smiled.

I waved. “Have a good night.”

Bosco walked her to the door, then returned a short time later.

“Rocco, I’m ready to go.”

“Everything ok? It felt a little tense when I walked in.”

“Yeah, fine. She’s in her first year of medical school at Penn State. We haven’t seen each other a lot this year. We aren’t in a relationship, but I’m not dating anyone else either.” He scratched at his short, dark hair.

It appeared for the first time my best friend was conflicted about his feelings toward another woman who wasn’t Ryah. I was fine with him moving on with Maze. But our secret would eventually blow up in our faces.

I sauntered through the doors of Melanie’s restaurant. Ryah sat at a corner table. Crossing her legs, she twisted her black Jimmy Choo stiletto under the table as she stared at her phone. Ryah’s wardrobe switched from jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, a few short dresses, and three pairs of heels to mainly dresses and stilettos. She took her business position at Conti Enterprises seriously.

“Hey, baby, good thing your men are watching your back because you aren’t paying attention to your surroundings.”

She smiled up at me, pressing her lips against mine.

“You’re right, I should pay closer attention.”

I rubbed her thigh with one hand and loosened my tie with the other. “What time are Faith and Alejandro supposed to arrive?”

“In about fifteen-minutes. You know I like to have you to myself first, right?” Ryah winked.

“I do.” A smile crossed my lips.
