I slid my hand over her bare thighs, under her short dress. She smiled at me.

“I come through the block like I’m Rico,” I rapped.

Ryah was feeling good. I was, too. If you didn’t count my aching muscles and bones. And the fact that one of my eyes hadn’t fully healed yet. But we both needed a night out with friends.

“You can come through my block anytime.” She wiggled her eyebrows.

Mara laughed at Ryah, sitting at the other end of the sofa with some athletically built, blond haired dude. His arm loosely rested over her shoulder as he smoked a blunt. Mara took it from his hand, brought it to her lips, and inhaled.

“Bitch, I love your place.”

Mara nodded, blowing a cloud of sweet, earthy smoke into the air.

Ryah and I didn’t smoke anything. Drinking liquor was the extent of our bad habits.

“Thanks. We needed something spacious so Josh and I could retreat to our own areas. Yet, come together for our bomb ass parties.”

“The sunlight in the morning has to be killer through the huge windows.” Ryah brought the cigar to her lips again.

“We have blackout curtains. They close automatically at four a.m.”

They laughed.

“Smart.” Ryah nodded as the smoke rolled from her lips.

“We don’t open them until noon.” Mara passed the blunt back to the dude.

I glanced at Josh. He stood by the window entertaining a dark-haired, short chick. I swear dude wouldn’t ever settle down. We were young, I understood. Ryah and I were different. There was no way I’d let her be with another guy.

Fuck that shit.

“Hey guys!” we heard from behind.

Ryah jumped up. “Faith,” she screeched.

She met her in the middle of the room, throwing her arms around her.

“Hello, Faith,” I stated, as I approached, whiskey in hand.

“Hi, Rocco.” Faith smiled.

I nodded at Alejandro. “What’s up?”

“Nothing much. I’m ready to chill.”

“Good, once Ryah’s pet arrives. I mean, her friend,” I stated through bared teeth.

“We’ll join my friends Gian and Bosco in the other room and shoot pool.

Alejandro laughed. “Bro, I bet you can’t wait to graduate so you don’t have to see that dude again.”

I shook my head. “He’s all right. I just want to make sure he understands Ryah belongs to me. If we’re really on the same page then we’re good.”

On cue, Genn opened the door, and Levi strolled inside.

“Hello.” He waved, and his brows rose when he saw me.

Must be the battle scars.
