CHAPTER ONE
ROCCO
MY EYES POPPED OPEN, and I glanced to my left. Ryah’s head was slumped over.
I went into survival mode. All the aches and pains I felt at that moment, I set aside. “Ryah, Ryah, can you hear me? Baby, wake up.” I slapped her cheek in an effort to wake her.
She came to and a long sigh left my airways.
A throbbing pain shot across the back of my head. I winced. Ryah didn’t see that, did she?
Rocco, stay strong for Ryah.
I swung my head, scanning the private jet. It was no longer luxurious. It looked like a tornado struck every inch.
Ercole held his head as he swayed to his feet. “We need to get off the plane.”
I felt cold water rising over my feet. He was right. We had to move quickly. Jennie stared straight ahead, crying. She needed to get her shit together.
My woman peeked at me, mouth agape. I guess I looked like a total shit show. Ryah was still beautiful. A little disoriented and frazzled maybe, but that was to be expected.
Genn and Agosto staggered out of the cockpit. Blood dripped from Genn’s forehead.
I unbuckled my seatbelt, then Ryah’s.
She pointed at my face. “You’re bleeding.”
I shook my head, waving off the pain that didn’t let up. “No time. I have to get you off this plane.” Every organ and muscle in my body felt like ground chuck. Maybe if we lived to see another day, I’d ponder on the excruciating pain I felt.
Genn opened the door. “Let’s go, everyone!”
“Jennie, on your feet.”
“You should leave me here, Rocco.” Tears soaked her tanned face.
“Did you try to poison us during lunch?”
Her brows rustled together and she shook her head. Like what I said was unimaginable.
“No.”
I stared into her big, round eyes. “Jennie, move.”
She clung onto the tattered seats as she walked toward the door.
Ryah clawed her way to Ercole. He hugged her and planted a kiss on the top of her head. “It’s going to be all right.”
She mustered a half smile.
I raised my hand. “Genn, check the door behind you. There should be a raft inside.”
He nodded. “That’s great news. We won’t have to wait to be rescued. Everyone be careful climbing out the door. Swim to the wing of the plane. I’ll get the raft.” Genn swiped his arm across his forehead as he turned and opened the closet.
The plane rocked, knocking us around like bowling pins.
“Shit,” Ryah growled.
I grabbed her waist, pulling her close, and it felt like the plane spun before my eyes. I blinked twice.
