We halted in the middle of the floor, threw our hands in the air, and shook our asses. Didn’t take long to gain the attention of a few hot players who attended the rival school our team played today. Prestige’s football team destroyed Crittenden High on the field tonight.

Thank god I didn’t wear my hair hanging over my shoulders. My honey brown strands were pulled into a high ponytail. The sheer black mesh stood high around my neck and the diamond studs accented the sheer material covering my arms. The dress stopped mid-thigh.

I felt eyes on me. Faith tapped my arm. “What’s up with Rocco?”

The high octane beat of the music panged every bone in my body in the best way. Peeking to my right, I stared into Rocco’s sinister eyes. He brought the cup to his lips. There was probably beer or whiskey in the cup. Emily tugged at his shirt, trying to gain his attention. I couldn’t take it anymore.

“Faith, come on.” Clutching the thin purse strap on my shoulder, I waved at the guys with my free hand. “We’ll see you around.”

The tall muscled guys grinned before we approached the DJ. Rocco didn’t make a move to announce I was single. Not a problem. I’d take matters into my own hands.

I whisper shouted into his ear, instructing him what to announce to the crowd.

“Listen up, everybody. Ryah Conti’s back on the market,” he yelled, over the blaring heavy metal.

Faith thrusted her fist in the air. “We’re celebrating tonight.”

The crowd went wild.

Genevieve and Yareli stood in the corner sipping from their red solo cups, whispering about me no doubt.

“We really need those drinks, Faith.”

I tugged her across the dance floor, past Rocco and his sex bunny into the jammed packed kitchen.

Leaning on the black marble counter, we wasted no time filling our red solo cups with our drink of choice.

Three kegs lined the large center marble countertop. Matt’s friends served the thirsty kids in line.

Taking a sip of the whiskey, I watched as Emily gripped Rocco’s hand, guiding him probably to a bedroom to fuck his brains out.

My blood boiled. I loathed her. Deep down, I knew I wanted Rocco for myself. I hadn’t admitted that truth until now.

Faith looped her arm through mine. “What do you think about him?” She pointed at the tall blond guy with gorgeous brown eyes.

I inhaled the remainder of my drink. “He’s cute. You should talk to him. I’m not sure what I’m looking for.”

She snorted. “You’re full of shit, Rocco. You want him so badly, I bet you can taste him on your tongue. The staring you two do across the lunchroom every day is getting old. Oh, and how he whisks you off after school almost every day. I swear you both are in denial.”

Genevieve and Yareli strolled toward us, also wearing tiny black dresses. At least Faith stood out in her powder blue strapless mini dress.

“What are you two drinking?” Genevieve asked, smiling.

I held the cup high. “Whiskey.”

Faith swirled the contents in her cup. “Vodka and OJ.”

“Yeah, that’s more my speed,” Yareli chuckled.

I nodded. “Are you guys hanging with us tonight?”

She tossed her long dark ponytail over her shoulder. “Yup, we party best together,” Genevieve admitted, grabbing a new red cup off the counter.

“True shit.” Faith raised her cup.

“Wait, I need a refill.” I poured Jim Beam whiskey to the halfway point in my cup, then raised it high.

“Here’s to putting our differences aside.” I’d never forget how they abandoned me the second they learned my true identity. Rotten bitches.
