I closed my eyes and palmed my face. He was the kid I scared shitless.
“Tell your girlfriend what you did to me.”
He tapped the muzzle against her head. Hope’s lips quivered.
My heart felt like it would burst out of my chest. A piece of me died in that moment.
“Ok,” I bit out.
I wanted to charge that fucker and feed him to the wolf.
“You were back terrorizing kids on the slopes. Pushing them down. You laughed as they rolled into innocent bystanders. It was time I taught you a lesson. Vino grabbed your girlfriend and brought her along. I kicked you down the steepest slope toward a forest.”
“It felt like I was in a moving car. I knew I was about to die. I shitted all over myself. You ruined my life, asshole.”
“You never hit the trees Barker because my brothers held the plywood board steady. You crashed into the board. We just wanted to teach you a lesson. What you did was wrong.”
“You embarrassed me; you trailer park bastard.”
“And you were a bully. You’ve made your point. Let her go.”
“No.” He pointed the gun at me.
Hope slammed the heel of her foot into his balls. She slipped out of his grip as he squeezed the trigger. The shot rang in the air, echoing around us. I hit the ground, barely dodging the bullet.
“Stay the fuck down,” Vino roared, pointing his gun at Barker.
I grabbed the Glock from my holster. “Drop the weapon, Barker.”
He shook his head. I fired a shot. The bullet slammed into his forehead. I hopped up and kicked the gun out of his lifeless grip.
“Don’t touch his gun, Noah. We’ll take it from here.”
Hope left Vino and ran into my arms.
Vino’s men flooded the backyard.
I placed my Glock in my holster. “Hope, are you ok?”
“Now I am.”
I kissed her head a thousand times. “It’s over, Hope.”
Her body quaked in my arms.
“Thank God.”
