He swallowed and managed to get enough air to speak. “Well, wow.”

Eva blushed, the heat rising in her face to match the slow, slumbering burning of his blood. “Wow isn’t in the same postcode.”

Simon chuckled and touched her cheek. “I love it when you blush. It makes you look like you do when you’re coming. Makes me want to…” He moved slightly, giving a short, sharp thrust. “Do that.”

Eva’s eyes widenedin shock. “How are you still hard?”

He shrugged. “I’m not, not really. I think if I tried to keep going things might deteriorate quite fast andreallybe embarrassing.” He pushed her sweaty hair from her face then reached between them and pulled out. “Give me ten minutes though, and I’m pretty sure I could make you scream again.”

Simon lifted his head, the intensity in his eyes shaking her to her foundations.

Eva didn’t know if she should be embarrassed that he’d phrased it like that—because in all honesty, she had screamed—or take him up on the offer.

Full-blown laughter erupted from him, she assumed at the expression on her face. She couldn’t help staring at him, at the relaxed happiness looking back at her. He leaned down and kissed her neck.

“But Eva, that’s exactly what you did. You clenched on me and held me tight while we both came.” His sexy words rumbled into her neck, sending shivers scattering all over her body.

“It’s not my fault you have a magic cock,” she whispered.

Her comment had the desired effect and he laughed again. He rolled onto his back beside her and stretched his arms to touch the headboard of the bed.

“I guess I should take my magic cock and go find the shower, yeah?” Amused blue eyes glittered in the dim light of her bedroom. “If you give me a few minutes, I’d be happy to go again if you’re up for round two?”

The smile drifted from his face. “I know I can tend to be a bit irreverent, but I’m not trying to make light of what happened. I didn’t expect this. I actually am having a bit of a hard time believing you let me into your bed. Particularly after my meltdown a while back.”

Eva rolled and shifted up onto one shoulder, her hair falling down to the duvet.

“That was necessary. That was aboutyou. This was aboutus. I’m always here for you, Simon. Whenever you need someone to talk to. Even if it’s about…”

His eyes softened with what looked like affection—forher. That in itself was almost enough to lay her flat.

“Amy. Her name was Amy.”

Eva nodded. “Amy. The pain won’t go away. It just lessens so that we can deal with it better. You should never feel bad or embarrassed about it. You loved her. She was your wife. If you hadn’t loved her, and if her death hadn’t affected you, you wouldn’t be the type of person I’d want to be with.”

At Simon’s contemplative look, she rushed on, “Not that we are together! I know it was just sex. I don’t mean to say that, to push you or anything—”

Simon’s finger pressed against her lips. “Don’t panic. I’m not going to run screaming because you said that.” He shrugged one shoulder and picked up a long curl, twirling it around his finger. “We can take it a day at a time. I like you. I liked you from the beginning.”

He looked up suddenly, his gaze piercing. “It wasn’t just sex. I don’t dojust sex. I haven’t since I was, heck, I haven’t done that in over fifteen years. I’m not going to start now. I know you have responsibilities, and I’m not going to be one of those people who breeze into someone’s life, make a huge mess, then piss off.”

“You mean Matty?”

He took a deep breath and trailed his fingers through the ends of the hair he’d been playing with. “Yes. If we decide to go ahead from here, it’s with full knowledge of what that means in every aspect of our lives. I would never deliberately hurt you, or your son. It might take me a while to get my head around starting something new, but I’ll do my damnedest.”

He sat up and pulled her with him. Eva tried to cover her belly and her boobs, but gave up in disgust. It wasn’t like she could hide herself from him, and he’d already seen it all.

That knowledge didn’t stop her feeling self-conscious, though.

Simon grabbed her hands. Heat flooded her face, and she couldn’t quite meet his gaze.

“Eva?”

She bit her lip.

“Look at me. Please.”
