His eyes widen. "Yeah! That's it. I don't do any of the trafficking. Just guard the docks."
Hannah straightens to her full height and rocks her shoulders back.
"How many women have come through those docks while you've been there?"
"I...I dunno...maybe a hundred?" He's only been there a few years so I would gage that number's correct. Dumbass doesn't even have the good sense to lie.
"All that evil needs to succeed is for good men to do nothing. You're not good, but you still did nothing."
She stands in front of me, careful not to touch the blood I'm covered with. This is it. This is where she sees the beast that I am. The depraved, shell of a man, and leaves.
She takes my face in her hands before bringing her mouth to mine. I'm surprised for a moment, but I lean into her kiss instantly, grateful for the warmth.
She pulls back just as quickly as she kissed me and I pray that wasn't a goodbye kiss. Instead, she leans up on her toes and whispers loud enough for the room to hear, "Make it hurt, baby."
She gives me one last kiss against my smiling mouth before she turns on her heel and leaves. With a wicked grin on my face, I turn back to our creep.
Gladly.
Chapter thirty-five
Matty
My girl is fucking stunning. It's the weekend and it's the first time the kids have been able to come to the farm. The leaves are changing color, and the sun is bright and warm, but Fall is definitely in full swing. My girl's wearing an adorable sweater and leggings.
Fuck, I love leggings.
She's got Viv up on a horse and Lauren's walking her around, giving her a pony ride, except on a big ass horse. Viv was nervous at first, gripping the front of the saddle like it might disappear from between her legs any minute. But now she's smiling and laughing. Hannah's smiling and chatting with Viv and Lauren. Aiden and Jack wait by the side, watching and waiting for their turn.
Diego, Rico, and Santiago stand next to me on the hill between the house and the riding arena. We watch the girls and kids silently for a moment. I rub my chest, where my heart suddenly feels too big for my ribs.
Diego barks a laugh before slapping a hand, hard, on Rico's shoulder. "Oh man, you three have it bad."
"Shut up, pendejo. Like you're not just as pussy whipped by Lauren."
"Yeah, I am..." he says almost wistfully.
"How do we get this forever? Forever with a woman who doesn't want to get married again?" I ask, desperate to tuck Hannah into my side and never let her go again. I've loved Book Nights and movie nights with the kids and everymoment I've gotten to see her, but I'm an addict - I need more.
I know Santiago and Rico are right there with me - I've seen the hunger on their faces.
"We choose her. We choose them. Every day."
I nod. That's as easy as breathing.
"Do you think they'd move to the farm? Besides the club, we can run everything from here."
"I don't know, man. She specifically said she wanted to keep the house for the kids."
Santiago types on his phone. I really need to learn sign language. I look behind his back and see Rico's thinking the same thing.
"Look at how happy they are. We just need to convince her."
