Casey didn’t know how she felt about it. She’d never had a surprise before, but it felt like she was taking more from him. She had to find a way to leave without him knowing. She just had no clue how.

Chapter Six

Simon watched Casey’s different emotions. He knew she was going to try something, so he’d have to be extra watchful.

He had to get through to her and sayhe wanted her with him. He had wanted to put it off until she was released, but now he thought it was better in the hospital because she was stuck for the moment.

Trent walked in with a sack and drink carrier. “Good morning, Sunshine,” he said to Casey.

She smiled hesitantly. “Good morning.”

Trent set everything down on the rolling table and handed Simon a coffee. He opened the bag and set out several sandwiches. “Here you go, Honey. I thought you’d like an orange juice and croissant sandwich.”

“It smells good. Thank you.”

“I want you to drink all your juice, Baby,” Simon said as he sat at the end of the bed.

Casey nodded. He watched as she sipped her juice and ate the whole sandwich. He took the wrapper from her and tossed it in the bag.

“Have you been by the office?” he asked.

Trent nodded. “Yeah. Everything’s under control. I’ve got it handled, so I don’t want you to worry.”

“Damn. I appreciate it,” Simon said.

“You’d do the same for me,” Trent said.

“You’re damn right I would.”

“Did you bring any clothes for me, Trent?” she asked.

He looked confused.

“I’m having someone else bring clothes for you,” Simon told her.

“Is that my surprise?”

Simon chuckled. “Yes. That’s part of it.”

“Do you think it would be okay if I took a shower?” Casey asked.

“I think you’re probably strong enough, but let’s wait for the doctor.” He had to hold back his smile when her bottom lip puffed out in a pout. He grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. He went through the channels until he came to some cartoons. He handed her thepuppy. “Rest for a bit. He should be in soon.”

“By the way, what’s the puppy’s name?” Trent asked.

“Booboo,” she told him without taking her eyes off the TV.

“That’s nice.” Trent glanced at him, and theysmiled.

The doctor, Daniel, came in a few minutes later.

Simon grinned when he saw that Casey had no idea since she was engrossed with the cartoon. The men talked for a bit before the doctor interrupted the show.

“Casey, can you give me a minute so I can check you out?” the doctor said.

Casey turned to look at him and then blushed when she realized she hadn’t known he was there.

“Yes, Doctor. I’m sorry.”
