“Good luck,” Darian said and laughed.

Chapter Fifteen

Ronin got to his car and drove to the hotel. Once inside, he walked over to the desk.

“Hello, may I help you?” a young woman asked.

“Yes, I’m looking for Courtney Warner. She has a room here, but she’s using an office right now.”

The woman looked at her computer. “Do you have a meeting with her?”

“Yes. That’s why I’m here,” he said. He wasn’t lying because he was meeting her there. Courtney just didn’t know it.

“She’s in office three, down that hall,” the woman said and pointed.

“Thank you,” Ronin said and walked off. When he got to the door, he opened it quietly to see her at a desk with her back to him. He quietly closed the door behind him and walked up to stand behind her and look over her shoulder.

He was not pleased to see her list of condos for sale, the name of a realtor, and job offers.

“Courtney…” He hated scaring her, but he didn’t know any other way to get her attention.

She screamed and jumped out of her chair, and tried to run to the door.

He picked her up in his arms. “Enough,” he said to get her attention. “Honey, it’s just me, Ronin. I’m sorry I scared you so much.”

Courtney exhaled and relaxed against his body. He sat in the chair she had vacated, holding her in his lap until her breathing calmed.

After a moment, she looked up at him in confusion. “What are you doing here?”

“I came to get you.”

“Why?” she asked.

“We started something I thought we were going to explore and then you disappeared on me,” Ronin said.

“I don’t understand. I didn’t know we had anything between us.”

“I know it seemed like that, and I’m sorry. I should have made it clearer, but I’m doing it now. I want us together. Can you see that happening?”

He could see her thinking about it and then frowned. “I can’t be with you.”

He knew what she was thinking, thanks to the other littles. “The woman you saw me with is a friend. A very married friend. We are putting on a charity ball for animals, and I told her I’d help. Did you notice the three men with us? They were in the meeting, too.”

She shook her head.

“Do you believe me, Honey?”

She thought for a moment and then nodded.

The air whooshed from his lungs, and he smiled. “Thank you for that.”

They just stared at each other for a moment.

“I’m going to kiss you,” he said.

“Okay.”

His head lowered, and hetouched his lips to hers. He knew she didn’t have any experience with men, so he knew to take it slow.
