Kali nods, tears springing to her eyes as Lora wraps her in a hug and whispers a quiet congratulations to her.
'What? What is it?' I ask, suddenly afraid that she has been offered a job somewhere miles away from the island and is leaving. Again.
'I'm officially divorced,' she says.
Relief floods me knowing that she isn't leaving imminently, but also because she is now officially single.
'I'm taking you out tonight,' Lora says before I even manage to get my congratulations out. 'To Judd's place,' she adds, and I laugh. It's the only bar on the island that isn't packed with tourists, despite being right in the port. 'Put on your best rags,' Lora adds, punching me lightly on the arm, 'and the bubbly is on me.'
'Judd doesn't know what bubbly is,' I say, barely able to breathe. When I finally manage to catch my breath, Lora is glaring at me, and Kali is looking at me with what can only be described as confused amusement on her face.
God, she is beautiful.
She has let the bleached colour grow out of her hair, allowing it to blend back to her natural dark blonde. Her face has more of a flushed colour since she has been going out daily, come rain or shine. There are even a few freckles dotting her nose and cheeks from the summer.
'You should come with us, Noah,' Kali says and I almost choke on my mouthful of coffee. 'Only if you aren't busy,' she adds, and I swear a blush stains her cheeks as she looks down at her hands and then remembers she is still holding her divorce papers.
'I'd love to,' I say as she posts the papers back into a manila envelope and places them on the side. I have to tell myself that there is no way this is a date, otherwise, we wouldn't be going with Lora.
