He chuckled as his hand ran down my side. I slowly untangled myself from him, and my feet shakily found the shower floor. Standing upright felt like an impossible task, and I leaned against him for support.

“This must be what a newborn baby cow feels like,” I mused, with my wobbly legs beneath me.

Compass’s arm wrapped around me and steadied me effortlessly. “Just stand here, babe. I’ll wash you.”

True to his word, he reached for the soap and lathered his hands. He started at my shoulders and worked his way down. His touch was gentle but firm, and his calloused fingers glided over my skin as he cleaned every inch of me.

When he reached my feet, I smiled and pushed him upright. “My turn.” I took the soap from his hands and mimicked his motions as I traced the contours of his body. His muscles tensed and relaxed under my touch. I took my time and savored every inch of him.

I finished washing him, and we took turns lathering and rinsing the shampoo from each other’s hair before the water finally began to cool.

Compass shut off the shower and stepped out first. He grabbed a towel and dried me off. His touch was careful, as though I were made of porcelain.

“Do we have any exciting plans today other than calling the mystery number?” I joked as I dried my hair.

“That’s all I’ve got planned, babe.”

I grinned. “Maybe we could just skip over the rest of today and go straight to meeting Kate tomorrow to see the possible bakery?”

Compass draped his wet towel over the shower rod and stepped into the bedroom. “If only we could just skip over the hard stuff,” he mused.

“That would be nice,” I agreed and followed behind him.

“Or maybe have dreams just come true.”

I grabbed a pair of underwear, slipped them on, and turned to face him. “I don’t know. I kind of think that happens already.”

He nodded toward me, his gaze warm and unguarded. “You, right there, are my dream, babe. I couldn’t have dreamed up a woman more perfect than you.”

I rolled my eyes and laughed as I walked to the closet. “Did you fall and hit your head when I wasn’t looking?”

Compass moved behind me, wrapped his arms around my waist, and pulled me back against his chest. “No, but if I did, and this is all just a dream, don’t wake me up.”

He trailed kisses along the curve of my neck, and I melted into him.

“We could just spend all day in bed with each other,” I suggested and turned my head to meet his gaze.

“Now, that would be a dream come true, babe,” he murmured, his lips brushing against mine.

“Then let’s do it,” I whispered and leaned into him fully. “I’ll be your dream, and you be mine.”

Chapter Twenty-One

Fallon

As much as Compass and I would have loved to stay in our little bubble forever, reality had a way of creeping in. My stomach growled loudly as I carefully opened the bedroom door and slipped into the hallway. I needed food, and Compass had fallen into a deep sleep. I didn’t want to wake him when a quick trip to the kitchen would solve my hunger.

I closed the door with a soft click, and I turned toward the kitchen—only to find myself face-to-face with Clay.

That man was like a dark cloud on a sunny day, sure to ruin everything. I should have just turned back into the room, but I didn’t. I regretted that choice the moment his smirk spread across his face.

“Well, well,” Clay called, and his voice dripped with mockery. “Look who’s showing her slutty face.”

I stopped dead in my tracks. The venom in his words hit me like a slap.

“I always knew you had a bit of a wild side to you, Fallon, but I never thought you’d end up being a biker slut.”

Shock rendered me speechless. I knew Clay was an asshole, but I never expected him to be so openly cruel. His words cut deep and left me frozen and unsure of what to say.
