“Want me to untie you?” he asked.

“I’m fine.” She yawned adorably, closing her eyes.

Rainer let her sleep, not bothering to cover her naked body because the room was warm, and he appreciated looking at those glowing curves too much to cover them up willingly. If she were cold, Georgia could grab the blanket on her own. It was within reach. So was the fridge and the bathroom. He’d measured the length of rope twice to make sure.

He left his office door open, in case she called out, and settled at the desk to work. Feeling calmer and more focused than he had in a while, he dived into each task, catching up on the hundred or so emails that had accumulated in his absence.

And to think my assistant filtered these. His PA had only passed on the most important messages, the ones that required his personal attention. As far he could tell, they had followed his instructions to the letter—and still, he was barely a quarter done.

I need to fucking delegate more.Rainer’s trust issues were bleeding into his business dealings.

Well, perhaps this was the push he needed to hire more people. Another analyst and perhaps an assistant for his assistant. Jotting down notes, he resumed tackling the inbox—determining to clear it before lunchtime.

He was so engrossed that he didn’t notice the text alert from the silent alarm or the sound of the front door opening.

CHAPTERTWENTY-TWO

Georgia was a lazy lizard. That was what Diamond had always called her and Mack when they overslept and were in danger of missing their school bus.

She’d been lying in that half-sleep twilight state all morning, glorying in the fact she had nowhere to be. Given the fact Mitchell always stuck her with early shifts, she couldn’t even remember the last time she’d gotten to sleep in.

Even on her days off, someone was waiting for her. Their neighbors would knock at their door, sometimes before they had to go to work, for a jump or to ask if she could ‘take a peek’ under the hood whenever their cars made weird noises. They knew she would always do it, regardless of the time. She was a pushover.

Except she didn’t feel like one right now. And wasn’t that ironic? She was naked, tied to a bed, and she felt fine.No misgivings. No guilt. And no shame.

So, when she opened her eyes and saw a big, dark-haired man carrying two grocery bags, she simply looked at him with mild interest.

It seemed the man was more surprised than she was. He dropped one of the paper sacks he was carrying when he saw her. Transfixed, the stranger stared at her, slack-jawed.

“Holy fuck.”

Rainer jerked his head up. That wasn’t Georgia. It had been a man’s voice. Grabbing the nearest weapon—a heavy geode paperweight—he bolted up and out to the living room where he’d left Georgia tied up.

It was lucky the man was carrying a grocery bag. It was an odd enough sight for Rainer to stop and look at the intruder.

“Garrett, you piece of shit, you just scared the crap out of me!”

His friend jerked, swiveling his head before jerking “Iscaredyou. What the hell is that?” he asked, jerking his thumb at a motionless Georgia.

Rainer swore under his breath. His lover was lying there completely exposed. Rushing past Garrett, he snatched the blanket up, throwing it over her naked body.

“I’m sorry, Georgia,” he whispered. Garett may have been his friend, but she had been lying out here defenseless and exposed to please Rainer. This was all his fault.

“It’s okay,” she mumbled before turning her head and closing her eyes.

Blinking, he took a step back.

“Is she drugged?” Garrett stage whispered.

“What? No,” Rainer hissed back. He stepped up to snatch the remaining sack in his friend’s arms. The second one he’d let fall had spilled at his feet next to the coffee table, but that could wait until later.

Physically dragging Garrett, Rainer herded the other man into the office. Closing the door, he rounded on his friend. “Don’t take this the wrong way, but what the hell are you doing here?”

Garrett burst out laughing. “That’s what I want to know—what the fuck is going on? I thought you were in hiding, not hosting a sex orgy.”

Rainer scowled. “I know you can count. One woman does not an orgy make.”
