She narrowed her eyes. “You never gave me what Ireallywanted.”
Liam raised a brow. “In my defense, you never actually asked.”
“He has a point,” Matthias said with a snort. Liam gave his ass an appreciative pat, and the two men smirked at her, looking entirely too pleased with themselves.
“Hey, that’s not how this works.” She laughed. “We gang up onLiam. It’s not the two of you against me.”
“Really? Because I thought you two were just ganging up on me, trying to get me to agree to travel more,” Matthias teased.
“Does that mean you will leave theOrmen Lange?”
Matthias’ sigh was long and drawn out, but Peyton knew he’d thrown in the towel. “I suppose. A few days here and there is one thing, but it sounds like Liam is going to be on the road for the better part of a month. That’s too long.”
Peyton jumped up, squeezing him tightly.
He hugged her back before heading to the double doors. “Why don’t we move this show inside? I think we’ve entertained the seals and dolphins long enough.”
“Why don’t you start the shower?” Liam suggested. Matthias, still coming down from the sexual high, obligingly staggered inside.
Liam waited until they were alone. He took her hand, keeping her from following. “Is everything all right?” he asked, the line between his brows deeper than usual.
“Yes,” she said, confused about why he asked. “This isn’t because I told him I loved him, right?”
“No, of course not. I think that’s good—he’s good. For both of us.”
She nodded in agreement, but Liam continued to frown. “I just sensed something when he came in. You seemed nervous… Did you guys get into a fight?”
Damn. Peyton never could hide anything from him. She ducked her head. “Yes. But it was days ago. We made up before you got home.”
“What was the fight about?”
“Nothing. Just a misunderstanding. Don’t worry about it. We’re all good now.”
She started to head inside, but Liam hadn’t let go. “Are you sure nothing else is wrong?”
Taking a deep breath, she considered about telling him about her conversation with Mason and the materials he was going to send her. It was only a split second of madness. Liam would shut her down faster than Matthias.
Which is why you’re not telling either of them.Peyton bit her tongue, tugging away with a smile. “Everything else is fine. Absolutely perfect,” she lied.
Chapter 33
“You can’t hold this against her,” Liam pointed out as he whipped off his tux jacket.
He tossed it on an armchair, a contemporary piece so space age Peyton half-expected it to fly.
“If she wasn’t so damn beautiful, this wouldn’t keep happening.” Matthias grunted, throwing himself down on the couch, another modern masterpiece that complemented the stark beauty of the Caislean Paris.
Peyton ignored the exchange between her lovers, deciding to kick off her heels so she could enjoy the plush carpet under her feet as she danced. Skipping around a high-backed ottoman, she began to hum strains of the waltz they’d played earlier at the ball.
Over a month had passed since she and Matthias had started flying to Caislean hotels to accompany Liam while he worked. They had spent two and a half near blissful weeks in Sydney. After that, they tripped through Milan before arriving in Paris a few days ago, much to her delight.
In the brief time they had been here, Peyton had visited Petit Palais, the Musee Dorsay, and spent hours lost in the Pompidou. She was saving the Louvre for the weekend when she could devote an entire day to the museum’s extensive art collection.
Aside from one short trip to Barcelona with Maggie after she turned twenty-one, Peyton hadn’t traveled much. Money had been a big issue when her father was alive. His alcoholism and gambling had been a constant drain on her finances. She could have traveled for free with Maggie, but it would have been a violation of her self-imposed rules. Peyton hadn’t wanted to take advantage of their friendship that way.
This was different, she told her drunken self. Now Peyton got to indulge her curiosity about all the places she’d read and dreamed about visiting while in the company of the two most important men in her life. Both of whom love me. She twirled again, this time in celebration.
“Are you seriously complaining that Peyton is too attractive?” Liam poured himself a drink before reaching for a second Waterford tumbler.
