Lance and Allison looked at each other then shook their heads. “No, ma’am.”
“In that case, I’ll step out so you can get dressed and I’ll see you in three weeks.”
“Thank you.”
Dr. Corvine headedto the exit. “Oh! I almost forgot. If you stop by the receptionist desk on your way out, we’re giving away a free Valentine’s Day dinner gift card to Monteverde Restaurant and Pastificio. They have the best roasted sea scallops I’ve ever had in my life.” She lifted her fingers in a chef's kiss and smiled.
“Thank you very much,” Lance said. “We’re looking forward to it.”
Dr. Corvine winked then left.
Taking his gaze back to Allison, Lance ran a finger down her face.
“Beauty, I meant what I said. We are already doing everything to prepare for our child. We’re taking the classes, reading the books, and we have good examples for parents. Do not stress about being a great mother. Okay?”
Allison inhaled. “Okay.” They stared at each other. “Why are you so good to me?”
Lance helped her sit up, and together they put on her clothes. “It’s the only way I know how to be.”
Allison slid her hands up his muscular chest, grabbed the collar of his button-down shirt, and pulled him closer, opening her legs.
A kiss started soft and slow, heat coiling around their mouths as they indulged in a sexy tango with their tongues.
“Mmmm,” Lance growled. “You better get off me, woman. Unless you want to show Dr. Corvine how you got in this situation, to begin with.”
A warm tickle ran down Allison’s spine, and she laughed. “Okay, okay. She’s already jealous. She might try and take my man, and then I’ll have to hurt her.”
His grizzly laugh warmed Allison all the more. “No one can take what belongs to you. Remember that.”
Lance lifted Allison by her ass and settled her on her feet.
“I like it when you talk dirty like that.”
“Oh, that’s talking dirty?”
“It’s a form of talking dirty. But not exactly like when you speak in the Italian tongue.”
He growled again. “Let’s get out of here. This room is getting hotter.”
They pulled themselves together and left.
ChapterTwo
“Look at my baby!” Margaret Sullivan opened her arms wide. “Your face is glowing, and oh my, look at this belly.” She drew Allison in for a hug. “Come on. Get in here.”
Allison eased into her mother’s arms, laying her head on Margaret’s shoulder. “I feel as big as a house. And I’m only six months. I don’t know if I can take much more.”
“What do you mean you don’t know if you can take much more? Surely, it can’t be that bad.”
“It’s not that it’s bad; it’s just….” Allison touched the bottom of her belly, lifting it slightly. “It’s heavy. The baby is heavy, mom. Was I this weighty when you were pregnant with me?”
“Well, you did have a big head. And that thing almost split me in two.” Margaret laughed, while Allison gasped, lifting her head from her mother’s shoulder.
“Mom!”
Margaret continued to chuckle. “You wanted the truth, so there it is. Thank God your head didn’t get bigger once you were born because I would’ve surmised that you were an alien.” Margaret laughed her ass off, and Allison took a step back, planting her hands on her hips.
“That is so mean and so rude. I thought I was your favorite girl even though I’m your only girl.”
