“Fuck, that went brilliantly,” Roman agrees.
He pushes the button to unlock his car, pulling the door open, but then turns to me.
“Thanks for the ride, Rodya. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
“Thanks, guys, that was really good. We can finish up the rest of the packing tomorrow.”
I watch as my brothers climb into their cars and pull out of the warehouse parking lot.
Finally, I get to go home.
I’m tired, hungry and happy. Life is great at the moment.
The sky is growing dark when I pull up into my driveway at home.
It’s been a long day but an incredibly successful one. The Dubrovs and Kuznetsovs have become an unstoppable force and whatever projects we take on together are practically an instant success. It shocks me every time—how well we are doing.
Today’s joint operation proved yet again that we are an incredible team.
I’m exhausted though, and I can’t wait to get inside and hold my wife in my arms. I want to breathe in the gorgeous scent of jasmine and let it wash away my busy day. She is my heaven, my place to unwind and let go.
I take the steps leading to our front door two at a time. Reaching for the handle, it opens before I get there and she is standing on the other side, waiting for me. Her smiling, beautiful face is looking up at me.
“I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to be able to come home to you every day.” I grin, pulling her into my arms and kissing her fiercely.
She laughs and wraps her arms around my neck, standing on her tiptoes to get closer to me. But she has to turn her body to the side because her belly is so big it gets in the way.
“I made salmon and roast potatoes because you said you were craving it,” she says, taking my hand and pulling me into the house.
I close the front door behind us. Then, squint at her.
“I am pretty sureyouwere the one who was craving it,” I chuckle.
She grins, “I was, but then I convincedyouto crave it too and now we both get what we want.”
I shake my head. “Princess, I have exactly what I want.” Placing my hand over her massively swollen belly, I rub small circles on her tummy. A little bump makes me jump in fright.
“He kicked,” I say excitedly. “I will never get over how amazing that feels.”
“He’s been doing that all day. I think he knows how frustrated I’ve been,” she sighs. Wrapping both hands around her stomach.
“Why have you been frustrated?”
“Because—I want to be on these joint operations with you guys. I don’t want to be waiting at home while you have allthe adventures without me. Just when I was getting ready to be involved with the family business—this little monster arrived—“ she gestures over her belly.
“My love, you are seven months pregnant. You aren’t going to be involved in much of anything besides growing a tiny human. You can come with us after the little guy is born, and you’ve had time to heal and settle. And even then—maybe you won’t want to. Maybe all you’ll want to do is stay at home and stare at our baby and wonder about how we managed to create something so amazing and perfect.”
She laughs, that beautiful musical sound. “Maybe—or maybe I’ll wait until he is older. Then I can start coming with you.”
I wrap my arm around her shoulder and lean her against my side. “So, where is this amazing salmon and potato dish that I have apparently been craving all week?” I chuckle.
Anya leads me right to the dining room where it is already set up and waiting. “How did you know to have it ready now?” I ask, curious.
“Live location, remember?” She laughs.
We both agreed ages ago to keep our live locations shared. It makes us both feel safer and it helps me worry less about her.
Over time, I have done my best to stop being so controlling and in return, she actually gave me more control. We really are perfect for each other in every way.
