A few minutes later, I carry her to the shower. As I’m drying her off after we step out, she breaches the subject I wanted toavoid.

“Um, shouldn’t we talk about birth control?”

“Naw.”

“I’m not on the pill.”

“Good.”

She stops me. “Leo, you could get me pregnant.”

I shrug. “Are you worried about disease? You don’t have to. I haven’t been with a woman in two years, and I got tested when I left the military.”

“No. I wasn’t worried about that. I’m worried about pregnancy.”

Again, she hits the nail on the head. I know it makes me kind of a jerk, but my plan to fuck a baby into her so she can’t leave me is working out well. That was until she brought it up.

“Don’t worry about it.”

“Leo, don’t say that. How can you not be worried about it?”

“Because the best thing besides having you in my bed would be having a baby with you.”

There is a long pause as she continues to stare at me.

“How can you say that, Leo? You hardly know me. My family is horrible, just like I said. Well, except Destiny.”

I notice that she leaves herself out of that comment. “I told you I knew you.”

“You—”

“I love you,” I grind out. “End of story.”

“End of story? What are you talking about?”

“I fell in love with you the moment I saw you, Angel. I don’t care who your people are.”

Another long beat of silence before a sweet smile curves her lips. Then she jumps into my arms, burying her face in my neck. “I think I’m falling in love with you too.”

All of the tension drains from my body. Hell, I didn’t realize how worried I was about her answer. I told myself there was someone out there for me, and now that I found her, I willfight tooth and nail to keep her safe.

Fable

After a quick shower, I’m sitting on the couch with some pencils, an eraser, and some paper. It’s just regular printer paper, but I am doing something with art for the first time in days, and I have to admit it makes me happy.

Although, I’m not sure if that has more to do with the fantastic sex. I glance over my shoulder at Leo, who gives me a fantastic smile. I can’t believe that stunning man loves me. Or at least he thinks he loves me. I want to sketch him so badly, but I have to concentrate on this task first.

The moment I put pencil to paper, I get lost in the process. It’s always been like this for me. Whenever I would get upset or worried about a situation, Destiny would distract me with a suggestion to paint or sculpt or just anything in my world. It always worked.

By the time I look up, I realize it’s been a while because Leo is sitting in the easy chair to my right, tapping on his laptop. I didn’t even hear him move.

It’s darker in the cabin, but I know it isn’t because of the setting sun. This has the feel of clouds, and I look toward the window. There’s a gentle rain tapping against the glass. One of my favorite things is rain.

I turn back to Leo and find him watching me.

“I was about to make you take a break. You’ve been at it forthirty minutes.”
