“Yes.”

“I’m sorry that I kept you from that. It would be a good way to test your stamina.”

“Sweetheart, there are other ways I’d love to test out my stamina. Standing out in the brisk weather isn’t one of them.”

“I’m surprised you aren’t chasing down all the ladies in town.”

“No, offense, I was married to a woman from town for years. I’ll pass. Never doing that again.”

“She takes a long drink of her water and grows quiet.”

“Yeah, I totally understand that. Divorces are tough.”

“You were married before?” An irrational jealousy coats my veins.

“Goodness, no. My parents were divorced and so are you. It must be difficult for you to go through it.”

“I wish I would have done it sooner. That’s the only difference.”

“Really?”

“Like I said before, we got married because I needed to settle down and carry on the legacy for the orchard. It wasn’t like I had time to find a wife and she practically threw herself at me. I was an idiot.” Seriously, I should have questioned the quick pregnancy, but I didn’t.

“Life is what you make it. I’m happy now that she’s out of it and Noelle and Autumn are starting to find their way again, so that’s all I need.” I’m lying through my teeth. What I need is her, but I can’t push her because she’s too damn young for me.

“What I need is some coffee,” she groans, looking at the tea mug she had this morning. I’m not a fan of decaf tea, but it was better for me, so she indulged with me.

“Oh and how many did you have today, missy?” I tease, poking her stomach that’s flat. She swats it away with a giggle.

“It’s not the same thing, you jerk. I’m allowed to have regular coffee.” She sticks out her tongue and I reach out to snatch it with my fingers, catching it.

I laugh and release it. “I guess my reflexes are good.” I groan, bringing my fingers to my lips.

“We’ll see.” She tries to swat my shoulder, but I grab her hand and pin her to the sofa.

“Looks like I’m definitely improving,” I pant, staring down at her soft caramel eyes.

“This is a dangerous line,” she whispers.

“It is. We should test how fast my heart is going.”

“I don’t think I can write that up,” she says, closing her eyes as my tongue licks her jaw.

“Just a note for yourself.” I bit her ear. “Tell me to stop or I’m going to kiss you.” She lifts her head toward mine, giving me what I need. My mouth lands on hers and our first kiss is incredible. The taste of her soft lips drives me to want more. I grind my hips down, causing her to moan.

“Evan, tell me how you’re feeling.”

“I’m feeling like I’m going to come if I’m not careful.”

“You don’t want to come?”

“Not unless I’m inside of your sweet little pussy.” I slide my hand lower and cup her sex.

“Evan, oh. Fuck. I might come too.”

“Good. That’s just what I want. I want you coming over and over.”

I slip my fingers under her leggings and panties, rubbing her sweet slit just as the sound of the car pulling up the driveway. I whip my hand out of her clothes and we both jump back like two scared teenagers to the other side of the sofa before straightening our clothes and start laughing because we almost got caught.
