“Well, what is it then?” I’ll work on whatever it is.

“If I told you, then you’d do your damn best to stop doing it. Sorry, babe, not giving up that little tidbit anytime soon.”

“It’s Shar,” I tell him.

“What?”

“My name, it’s Shar, notbabe. I’m not your babe, I’m your employee, and you should remember that. For someone so damn smart, you sure are stupid. Do you even realize that I can list five times today that would warrant a sexual harassment suit against you, resulting in a big fat check for me?”

Xavier looks over at me, his eyebrows drawn down. “You’re not going to sue me, Shardonnay,” he says with a cocky confidence.

“Oh yeah? How can you be so sure?”

His answer is nothing more than a smouldering smirk I want to lick—no, not lick—slapoff his stupidly handsome face.

Chapter Eight

Ihad my doubts that Shardonnay would last the week. However, she has surprised me with how quickly she’s picked up on everything. I’m not sure why I expected anything less. I knew she was granted an academic scholarship to Hunterview Hills Academy. That school is not an easy one to get into. And I vaguely remember Lucy mentioning how herbest friend received a full-ride scholarship to the University of Melbourne as well. I didn’t realise the girl never actually started.

I’ve kept as much distance as I possibly can all week. Whenever I’m around her, I can’t fucking think straight. I turn back into a horny fucking teenage boy. I need to get laid—thank fuck it’s Friday and tonight I can hit the town and relax a bit.

Speaking of the little vixen, she pops her head into my office. “Xavier, I’m off. Enjoy your weekend.”

“Sure, you too,” I say, then look up as she starts retreating from the doorway. What the fuck is she wearing?“Shardonnay, get in here,” I yell out, causing her to jump.

Spinning around, she walks back into my office, stopping just across the threshold. “Yes?” Her words are gritted out through clenched teeth.

“You changed.” I point out the obvious.

“And you’re perceptive.”

“Why?”

“Why are you perceptive? Who knows, Xavier? I don’t have time for this. Is there anything you actually need? I’m pretty sure even Satan’s PA gets a weekend off,” she sasses back at me.

“Why’d you change?” I ask.

“Not that it’s any of your business, but I changed because it’s Friday night and Lucy will be here any second to pick me up.” She makes a point to look at her watch.

“Where are you two off to?”

“No idea? Can I go now, Dad?” she huffs. I can’t help but smirk as I imagine her bent over my desk, calling meDaddyas I spank that attitude right out of her.

“Eww, if you two are going to do the whole daddy-baby thing, save me the agony of ever having to hear it. Please.” My sister’s voice draws me out of my daydream.

“Lucy, it’s good to see you—be even better if I were seeing a little less of you,” I say, motioning a hand up and down herbody. What is it with these girls and not wearing clothes that actually fit them? “Did you buy that dress from the children’s department?” I ask her.

“It’s hot, huh?” Lucy does a little twirl.

“So hot. Let’s go.” Shardonnay links her arm with my sister’s.

“Where exactly are you two off to tonight anyway?” I ask again, keeping my voice as nonchalant as possible.

“That new club, Unhinged,” Lucy answers.

“It’s not even six,” I point out.

“Oh, we’re going to dinner and pre-drinks first, then the club. Why? You wanna come with?” Lucy offers, while Shardonnay groans beside her.
