“Where’s your bike again?”

He shrugged again. “In a ditch somewhere.”

As I cleaned away the dried blood from his face, his fingers walked up my chest and tweaked my nipple.

I smacked his hand away. “Stop!”

“When are you going to get piercings? You need more. They look so good on you. I’ll go with you. Maybe I’ll get some, too. Would you like piercings on me?”

I snorted a laugh and shook my head. “Sure, you can get some piercings.”

“Let’s go for a ride.”

Jesus. How hard did he hit his head?

“Jaxon, you crashed your bike.”

“Oh…. yeah.” He grabbed at me again, and I fell into his lap. “I love it when you call me Jaxon. I love you.” Ajax pressed his face to my neck and nipped the skin, but I pushed him back. All this talk of love was making me fucking uncomfortable and itchy.

“I’m not ready to address strong feelings right now,” I said.

“Come on, baby… tell me.”

“Dammit, Ajax!”

He literally pouted, with his full lower lip sticking out. “Don’t you love me?”

I pinched the bridge of my nose and took deep breaths, trying not to panic. While I wanted love, it was also terrifying. The last time I felt that way, it had shattered me.

“How about you sleep off this alcohol first, and then we can see how you feel in the morning?”

Regardless, I wasn’t ready for this. I had strong feelings, too, but I held them back under lock and chain.

“But I’m not tired. You know what we should do?”

I climbed off his lap and continued to clean his face. “Sleep?”

He snorted a laugh. “Noooo… Wanna get high? We should go find some drugs. God, I just wanna fly. Say… you sell drugs, right? Got anything good?”

After my shit as a teen, I still drank and maybe puffed on some weed, but I didn’t do hardcore shit or get trashed. My stepfather beat that shit right out of me, and I craved that direction.

“Are you insane? We’renotdoing drugs. You don’t even do drugs except for weed. Besides, you were pissed when you found out I sold.” I folded my arms and frowned at him. “What the fuck is wrong with you? This isn’t just you being drunk.Didyou take drugs already?”

He thought for a moment, his knee still bouncing. “I… don’t think so. Maybe? I don’t know.”

I grabbed his face and looked into his eyes, which were wide and bouncing as much as his knee, but his pupils looked okay. Shit. He better not have after that fucking lecture about me selling them.

A sudden bitter taste formed in my mouth. That was the reason Ajax told me he loved me. He was fucking high.

Then, an idea hit me. Maybe I shouldn’t give him one after he’d been drinking, but he needed to calm the fuck down. Neither of us was going to get any sleep at this rate.

“I might havesomethingfor you.”

Ajax rubbed his hands like some greedy supervillain. “Sweet! This’ll be fun.”

I rolled my eyes and led him to my bedroom. “Sit. Stay.”

I headed to the kitchen and poured Ajax a large glass of water. Then, I went back to my room to find him pawing through my drawers. I rolled my eyes again and opened my closet door to pull out a shoebox containing the drugs I was supposed to sell but hadn’t yet.
