Crossing his legs took the pressure off his dick, but it did not eliminate the powerful compulsion to flip Ava onto her stomach and slide between her thighs.

“Ava.”

Her attention ricocheted to him.

“Sit here beside me,” he commanded.

An almost imperceptible shudder racked her body. “Must I?”

Kingston’s head cocked. “I won’t ask twice.”

Grumbling beneath her breath, Ava moved to the space he tapped with his hand. She sat stiffly as though expecting an attack at any moment.

“Would you like something to drink?” he asked, pouring himself a Macallan 30 from the limo’s bar.

Ava nodded. “The same as you.”

Kingston smiled. “You don’t drink scotch, Ava.”

She shrugged. “You don’t know everything about me. Maybe I’ve tried it before and liked it.

“At eleven thousand a bottle, I hope you have a greater reaction than just liking it.” Kingston handed her a tumbler while her eyes widened at the mention of the extravagant cost. “Let it rest for a minute… give it time to develop and ripen with the ice.”

“Maybe you shouldn’t waste it on me.” Ava rolled the glass as she’d seen him do and sniffed the liquor.

Kingston slid his free arm around her waist, tugging her closer. She frowned but allowed it.

“I don’t consider it a waste. More like an experiment.” Witnessing Ava’s plump, pink lips delicately touch the crystal rim was enough to drive a man crazy with desire. She sipped the liquor, letting out an appreciative hum when she slowly swallowed.

Kingston’s pulse leaped as the muscles of her throat contracted and relaxed.

“It’s… good, I think.” Taking another drink, she examined the scotch’s color reflecting through the cut crystal and chunk of ice. “It’s very pretty.”

Kingston stretched his legs out. “One glass is more than enough, lamb. I don’t want you inebriated at dinner.”

The stubborn tilt of Ava’s chin wavered, her voice laced with soft resentment. “You’re always telling me what I can and cannot do.”

“Someone must keep you safe, lamb, and it might as well be me for now. You can go back to being reckless when you are no longer mine.”

“A day I look forward to with great anticipation,” she responded tartly.

Kingston laughed. “You’ll be surprised to know that I’ll be just as happy when this damned obsession has run its course. You’ll be free and so will I.”

A flash of something that may have been pain crossed Ava’s features, but Kingston did not pursue it. He was too busy wondering why the ache in his chest bloomed at the thought of losing her. Draining his own glass, he set it down and took Ava’s.

His cell phone chimed at that moment, Oliver’s name flashing on the screen. No doubt his brother was curious about Kingston’s decision to take their prisoner on a pleasure outing.

He answered it. “Yeah.”

Oliver sighed through the receiver. “What the fuck are you doing, King?”

“Since when must I answer to you, little brother?” Kingston calmly replied. Ava tensed beside him, her lips flattening into a thin line.

Kingston understood her fear and was glad for it. It meant she wouldn’t dare seek out Oliver’s assistance for any reason. He lightly caressed her arm with the pad of his thumb, the motion soothing and tender, but she didn’t relax under his touch.

“You don’t. But taking her away from The Den opens the door for… complications.”

“Dinner is hardly a complication. Besides, she’s had a life-altering experience this week. She deserves a reward.”
