“What’s it going to take to get Charlie back?” I ask.
Mammon laughs. “She’s going to cost a pretty penny.”
I stiffen.
Charlie would be devastated if she knew she was being talked about like this, especially after her history of being very literally auctioned off. My human isn’t for sale.
“We have no interest in buying her from you,” Silas adds, taking over.
Mammon gulps, her eyes darting from me to Silas. It’s never a good sign when I’m unable to continue interacting, and it’s making her nervous. Good.
Gray runs his thumb along the back of my hand before prying my fingers off his thigh and flipping it over so he can trace the lines on my palm. It distracts me enough that I can smell his lust, the man probably pushing it out for my benefit.
It’s a good thing we fed him before coming. He would’ve been too hungry to do this earlier.
“You need to pay for what you’ve done.” Mammon pivots, getting to the real reason she called us here. “The blessed breeds know of your lies and are far from happy. We know you’re looking to avoid a war, and we’re willing to forgive your deceit if you support our efforts.”
Silas grabs my leg when my anger doesn’t settle, his fingers curling into my thigh like mine did to Gray’s thigh earlier.
While my relationship with Gray has always been complicated, I’ve never crossed any bridges with Silas. I can count on one hand the number of times we’ve willingly touched skin. It’s never been something we do, but if we want to bond with Charlie, we’ll need to get comfortable with it.
I let my fingers fall between his.
I don’t necessarily want to do all the things Silas and Gray do with one another, my attraction toward men limited, but I’m willing to try. Especially since Charlie seems to enjoy it so much.
I know my little female will demand I get fucked at least once.
My desire for Gray grew after our bonding, and I’m sure the same thing will happen with Silas. Even now, I don’t dislike Silas’s touch. It’s foreign and feels odd after being nothing more than friends for so long, but that doesn’t mean it’s unwelcome.
If he moved his hand higher up my thigh, my body would react.
“Support your efforts?” Silas asks, ignoring the way Mammon glances at our connection. We’re giving away more than we should. “We’re going to need more information than that.”
“We want your money. Our plan includes extensive infrastructure and operational expenses.” Mammon lists off items with a snap of her fingers.
I tighten my holds on Silas and Gray, needing something to keep me from launching myself at her.
Gray stands and weasels himself between me and the table. I huff as he plants himself on my lap. Instinctively, I wrap my arms around his waist and rest my hands on his thighs, the only comfortable place to put them when we’re in this position.
What did I do before he was in my life?
Killed a lot more, that’s for sure.
Silas turns to us with a raised brow, his hand flexing before he yanks it back to himself. It probably hurt having it smashed between Gray’s and my bodies.
“Oh? And how much areyouproviding?” he asks, propping his elbow on the table and resting his chin in his hand.
Mammon doesn’t immediately respond, her lack of answer telling me all I need to know. She has no intention to pay, and she fully intends for me to bear the financial brunt of this endeavor.
I have no issues helping, wanting to show my support to the cause, but I’ll be damned if she makes me out to be a fool.
I’ve been embarrassed enough by Charlie running to Mammon and sharing our secrets. Levia’s furious with me, threatening war and publicly mocking my inability to keep my female under control. The last thing I need is to come across as weak by submitting to Mammon.
She plans to drain me and attack while I’m down. It wouldn’t be the first time she tried.
My lip curls at the memory of her feigning interest in helping teach me to lead after my father was removed from power. It only lasted a few years before her true intentions came to light. The woman’s always wanted my kingdom, and I know she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get it.
“We’re supporting in other ways,” she says, avoiding Silas’s question.
