“He woke up early and left. I think he’s in his office catching up on work.”
“What exactly does Gray do for work?” I pry.
I’ve never really thought to ask, but I’m curious. He seems to have more free time than Silas and Aziel, but occasionally, he’ll escape to his office for a few hours.
“Believe it or not, Gray helps manage our forest service. He has a strange fascination with agriculture and helps oversee the lands. We have a dedicated forest service team, and Gray inserted himself into it about sixty years ago.” Silas’s lips curl into a smile as he shares this information.
To say I’m shocked would be a complete understatement. I had absolutely no idea.
“And what do you do?” I ask.
Silas shrugs. “I help Aziel.”
I imagine that’s got to be a horrible job. Being the leader of all of Wrath is probably a lot of work, and I’m sure a significant portion of it has been falling to Silas whenever Aziel’s been off in the pits.
I’d be pissed if I were Silas.
“So you’re pretty much the de facto King of Wrath,” I tease.
Silas looks pointedly uncomfortable as he shakes his head. “No. Fates aren’t leaders. It’s a conflict of interest and could get me punished. I help with the finances and offer suggestions, but I don’t make decisions.”
“Get you punished?” I ask. “By whom?”
I’d pay good money to understand Silas better. He’s an enigma, and not knowing is driving me crazy.
“By Fate. I mess up, and suddenly, I find myself burning to death in a once-in-a-million-year sinkhole that I’m somehow unable to teleport out of.” Silas laughs as he says this, but I have a feeling he’s not joking.
The thought of Silas dying brings a shiver to my spine, and I press myself further against his side. He’s only in his underwear, and I bury my face in his exposed chest as he wraps his arms around me and pulls me into a tight hug.
It feels nice, and I enjoy it for a moment before climbing on top of him. There’s always a slight moment of fear that Silas will push me away when I do things like this, but instead, he brings his hands to my hips with a wide smile.
Without thinking, I lean forward and kiss him. His breath hitches, and I tilt my head to the side to deepen it. Silas is gentle as his tongue slides between my lips and brushes against mine, and I moan into his mouth before pulling away.
“What do you want me to do?” I ask, my shaky voice revealing my nerves. “You know, to you?”
Silas’s eyebrows furrow, and I sink my teeth into my bottom lip as I wait to hear his response. It’s no secret he likes women to dominate him, but I’m still confused about what that consists of.
I’m happy to do it. I just need to know whatitis.
“You don’t need to worry about that,” Silas says, deflecting.
I frown as he tries again to connect his lips to mine, unhappy he isn’t giving me the answers I want. Why is he avoiding it? I hope it isn’t because he thinks I’m judging.
Silas ignores my annoyance as he brings his mouth to my neck. He licks the column of my throat before sucking on the skin where my shoulder meets my neck.
“Tell me.” I gasp.
“No.”
I grit my teeth as he gently bites my skin, and I shiver before pulling myself out of his mouth’s reach and cupping his chin. He stares at me with wide eyes, looking wild. I take a moment to enjoy it before turning and shouting Gray’s name.
My voice is loud, and Silas groans as I push his hair out of his face and beam down at him. It doesn’t take long for Gray to come barreling into the room.
“You rang?”
I plant my hands against Silas’s chest before peering at Gray.
“Silas won’t tell me what he wants,” I pout.
