He cracked my wall, but other than that, he looks relatively unharmed. Kato comes running through a second later, his body slamming into Chev, who gets flattened against the wall once more. I watch Silas as the older shifter starts to panic and coddle his son.

He hates Kato, and he has no issues letting that be known.

I’m not a fan, either, and I’m annoyed he’s using the portal when I explicitly told him he wasn’t allowed.

“Welcome!” Charlie laughs, her eyes darting between the two.

Gray steps forward and nudges her through the portal. They disappear into the blue haze, and immediately, I feel our bonds tighten at the distance. It’s uncomfortable, and I shuffle my feet until they return with wide grins.

“It works?” Silas asks.

Charlie nods and clasps her hands together as Echo appears behind her. Kato falls silent, his bantering with Chev ending as he spins and glares at his daughter.

“Go home,” he orders.

I lean against the wall as Charlie grimaces, but I move to stand between her and the shifters when it becomes clear Kato is agitated.

We are the only angry males she should be around.

“You don’t own me. I have every right to be here,” Echo snaps.

Chev places a hand on his father’s arm and shakes his head. Kato angrily stands down, and Echo turns to look around our home with a slack jaw. The awe on her face is a bit surprising, and I feel horrible as I realize it’s because she’s never left the shifter lands before.

Guilt slams into me like a freight truck. I’m partially to blame for that.

Shifters have always kept their females hidden, but it’s never been this bad. They were allowed to explore and have lives outside their realm before the female decline.

Echo’s attention flickers from me to Silas. She scans the man with narrowed eyes before turning to Gray. There’s a lethality in her stance I often see Charlie trying to imitate, a slight crouch with wide legs that keeps her rooted to the floor.

I see why Charlie likes her so much. She’s who my female wants to be.

Echo’s arousal fills my lungs when she looks at Gray, the action earning a warning growl from both the shifter males standing next to her. I’m grateful Charlie can’t smell it. She’d have trouble understanding that Echo can’t control it.

Gray’s an incubus, and just because Charlie’s gotten used to the scent doesn’t mean others aren’t affected.

“Like what you see?” Gray teases, the corner of his lip twitching as Echo’s face grows red.

Charlie’s end of the bond yanks, the action borderline painful. My nose scrunches as I turn to her, surprised by the intense jealousy I feel. She looks between Gray and Echo with a frown, and her wide eyes grow panicked as Echo lets out a nervous giggle.

I know Gray would never touch the shifter, but I still feel agitated that my pregnant mate is angry. My jaw clenches as I suck in a deep breath, fighting to remain calm so I don’t do something I regret.

Charlie would hate me if I killed her friend.

Gray seems to notice our reaction as he moves to stand behind Charlie. His hands land on her hips, the action a silent claim, before he rests his chin on her head.

I’m happy to see Gray taking the initiative to settle her as he used to. He’s always been good at it, and I’d bet money he only spoke to Echo to see how Charlie would respond.

Gray loves when people are jealous over him, the man very much an incubus in that sense.

“You have any leftover Ucka?” Chev asks, changing the subject.

I blink. Is he seriously looking to raid my fridge?

Chev holds my gaze, his head cocked slightly to the side until I give in and gesture toward the kitchen. He straightens with a grin and tries to knock his knuckles against my head as he passes.

I smack at his hand, sick and tired of him constantly trying to do that. I don’t like when he does it to Charlie, either, even if she seems to enjoy it.

Chev wanders off without another word, the giant man looking almost goofy as he searches for my kitchen. I summon a shadow to follow him, not wanting the shifter to have free rein in my house.
