Page 72 of The Female

“Aziel will be furious you’re forcing his female into a frenzy,” Silas says.

Asmod laughs, his eyes shining with amusement as he takes a threatening step forward. I struggle to maintain my unaffected, uncaring expression.

“Is that so?” Asmod asks.

He lifts his arms and gestures around, alluding to the fact that Aziel is nowhere to be found.

Leave it to the Wrath to disappear the second he’s needed.

My muscles relax when Aziel materializes behind Nicolette. He takes only a moment to look around, his eyes narrowing before his lips curl into a snarl and he shoves an arm through her back.

I shut my eyes to hide my pain. This is my fault.

Nicolette has only enough time to let out a gust of air before she crumples to the ground, the sound drawing Asmod’s attention. He and Aziel make eye contact, and Aziel makes a show of dropping the heart he pulled from her chest onto her body.

Asmod hardly reacts. He never cared for her, and I know he only took her as a wife to hurt me.

Her heart lands on the back of her head before rolling away, the squelching sound it makes uncomfortably loud within the newly silent room.

I flinch, but that’s the only reaction I allow myself to have. Now isn’t the time to mourn.

Nicolette’s blood drips from Aziel’s fingertips as Asmod’s lust dissipates.

Charlie cries in response to its abrupt removal, the noise drawing Aziel’s attention.

I anticipate she’ll come to awareness shortly, but it will be painful for her not to cum after ingesting so much. I’ve never experienced a comedown, but from the descriptions people have given me, it’s similar to the withdrawal weaker breeds are subjected to after ingesting heavy drugs.

Aziel steps toward Charlie but freezes as he passes the incubus who lunged for her earlier. The incubus grazed her arm with his fingers, and I’m sure he carries her scent. Aziel cocks his head to the side, scanning the man before he rips out his heart as he did to Nicolette.

Aziel smiles as the body drops to the floor, his pupils dilated. I exchange a panicked look with Silas. This is less than ideal.

Shay wiggles once more, but this time, I release her. I hate the feeling of her in my arms, and I know she won’t try to harm Charlie when Aziel is here.

“Is there anybody else who’d like to claim my female?” Aziel asks.

Asmod smartly steps back, knowing better than to get in a fight with Aziel. It’s not one he’d win, especially while the demon is very quickly losing himself to his wrath.

A tense silence stretches as the incubi begin to vanish, their bodies disappearing as they take this as their cue to leave.

I sigh and run a hand through my hair. Aziel visibly shivers as he fights to contain his rage, but the moment Charlie’s loud cry echoes through the room, I watch the last sliver of control he has snap.

Aziel’s muscles loosen as he succumbs to it, his body preparing to fight as the full extent of his power emerges from him. Silas buries Charlie’s face into his chest to keep her from breathing it in, which I’m grateful for.

“Aziel,” I whisper, drawing his attention. “That’s enough. Charlie’s fine.”

I step forward and try to reach him through the bond. He rarely lets me in, but it’s worth a try. I know he’s got some hidden feelings toward Charlie, but he doesn’t need to be going full wrath in the middle of this party.

Asmod has backed off, and the others will follow.

Aziel turns toward me, blinks, and disappears.

Fuck.

I watch in horror as he materializes behind an incubus who’s yet to leave. The poor man doesn’t even have the chance to react before dropping to the floor, his blood pooling from the open wound in his chest.

The demons who are too weak to teleport begin to run, their frightened motions only acting as fuel. Aziel loves the chaos, but I don’t have time to calm him as Silas captures my attention and gestures to Charlie.

She’s twitching, her body begging for the release Asmod’s lust promised her.
