“What happened?”
Landon closes his eyes, his arms tightening around my body. “He died.”
I can tell from the pain written across his face he doesn’t want to talk about it. “I’m sorry.”
He nods before opening his eyes. He stares into mine and I know that all talk of ourselves is over. He brushes a loose strand of hair behind my ear, a piece that dried and fell out of the wet bun.
Hunger flashes in his eyes and I know what he needs. Whatever happened to his friend he blames himself for. And I can tell he uses sex to cover up the pain. I wrap my arms around his neck as his lips dive for mine. This time our kiss is urgent, untamed fire.
He backs me up and pushes me onto the couch so I land on my back. His body covers mine, all hard and needy as he attacks my mouth and my neck.
I don’t even try to fight the urge to feel his hardness against me as I grind my hips into his. My hands running down his back, grabbing his ass as we make out like teenagers.
I squeeze my thighs together as I become needy, the heat between my legs overtaking my body. Landon must feel it because his hand slides down my body into my sweats and cups my center. He takes one thick finger and slides it between my wet folds. I arch my body and scream as that one touch ignites my entire body on fire. His mouth bites at my neck as he pushes his finger into me. I ride his hand, my grip tightening on his ass as I come.
His lips move back up my neck and find mine as he pulls his hand out of my pants. I pull his head to mine, pressing my lips hard into his before he pulls back and stares into my eyes. “Mari, fuck. I’m sorry. I just got carried away. I didn’t want to think—”
“It made you forget.”
He nods.
I push him away and sit up, grabbing his hand. “It made me forget too.”
“Is this wrong?” he asks with concern. “Do you feel like this is a mistake?”
“Because I’m married?”
“Yeah.”
“When I’m with you I forget about the mess of my life. You make me see the life I could have. What life could be like when I’m free of the burdens.”
He nods and squeezes my hand. “Same.”
I look at him and press a chaste kiss to his lips. “I should go.”
He stands up and pulls me with him. “Hang out with me tomorrow?”
I should say no. But after tonight, after the words that were spoken, that emotional connection I felt earlier feels more important than ever. Like we need each other to forget what’s weighing us down. “Okay.”
We exchange numbers before he walks me to the door. “Want me to walk you down to the garage?”
“No. I remember where it is.”
“Are you going to answer the phone when I call you tomorrow?”
I smirk at him. “We’ll see.”
He laughs and pulls me into him. His lips trapping mine in a quick, hot kiss that has me wanting more. “Now you will,” he says as he pulls away before I want him too.
“Maybe.” I joke as I open the door.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.”
I wave as I walk out the door wondering what the hell I am doing.
