A second later, the door slides open and Aydan and Evander come in looking like they've been battling all day. My heart instantly leaps into my throat. Whatever they’re dealing with, it’s not fun.

“You guys okay?”

They nod.

Aydan’s gaze goes over us lying on the bed and the snacks all around us. “Having some fun?”

“Granger was trying to get it down my throat, but he sucked at it.”

There’s silence for a minute.

Aydan clears his throat. “Well, we’re going to be having a very busy rest of the day, but we wanted to check in.”

“How long do you have?” I ask.

“Two hours and counting,” Evander says, smirking.

Granger scoots out from under me, letting my head hit the bed, and starts to clean up our messes. “How on edge is the government?”

Evander looks frustrated. “They’re looking for an excuse to declare an all out war with the dragons. We need to give them a reason they shouldn’t, even while the dragons are giving more and more reasons to go after them by the minute.”

“Well, once people see proof they’re intelligent, the government will have to come up with a new plan. Even though people are scared, no one in good conscience can kill other intelligent beings without good reason,” Granger says.

Aydan sits down at the edge of the bed. “That’s the conclusion we’re hoping they draw, but it doesn’t help that those asshole dragons have been causing problems everywhere they go. They started a forest fire, attacked a plane, burned down a barn, and I’m hearing reports they dropped into Oceanview and burned a row of buildings before disappearing. It’s just a clusterfuck right now”

“Damn, that doesn’t help, but it’s just a bump in the road.” Granger has managed to clean up our mess. He stands, bags of candy in his hands, and says, “I’m going to go check in with the doctors and see if we’ve learned anything new with Zane’s data.” I don’t know if he really wants to do that or is just giving us a minute alone, but I already miss him as he heads out the door.

Evander shifts, arms crossed over his chest. “Today is going to be a long day.”

The two of them exchange a look.

I lift a brow. “Yes, it sounds like it will be.”

Another look.

“Is there something you want to talk to me about?”

Aydan lets out a rush of air. “Zane.”

“Zane. Okay. What about Zane?”

Aydan continues, “We don’t know anything about him. He’s telling us a bunch of shit about us all being connected, being in a harem together, and sharing you, but we really don’t know if that’s true. This could just be another tactic.”

“I understand why you’d think that,” I say, choosing my words with care. “We’d have to be stupid not to consider the possibility, but the thing is, I don’t feel the same way about Zane as I do about the other dragons we’ve encountered. I like Zane’s scent. I like everything about him, and my instincts are telling me he can be trusted.”

“Sometimes our instincts are wrong.” Evander doesn’t look pleased.

“Like when I trusted you?”

Evander flinches. “No, I…”

“Sometimes our instincts are right. Mine are right about Zane,” I say with finality.

Both men stare at me.

Then Aydan motions for me to come over to where he’s sitting on the bed. I close the space between us, but then he grabs my wrist and tugs me onto my knees in front of him. “We don’t want you sleeping with Zane.”

I lick my lips and stare at his cock. “I don’t plan to sleep with him any time soon, but you should know, I’m also notopposedto sleeping with him.”
