Evander and I exchange a look. The truth is, we’re not sure about that. We’re still learning to be dragons. We don’t know that we can keep Sam safe right now, and another dragon on our side would definitely help, especially one who knows what it is to be a dragon and can teach us.

Even though I hate the idea.

Sam stands up a little taller, and it’s like she’s speaking my thoughts aloud. “Zane, I think you should come back to our base with us. I think we could use your help.”

His pale blue eyes seem to twinkle. “Of course. I would be glad to join you.”

Then, her gaze moves over us. “And we’re going to be welcoming and work as a team.”

“Right,” I say.

“Uh huh,” Evander responds.

She sighs, but then turns back to the ice dragon. “Come on, Zane, we’ll show you our home. At least our home for now.”

We soar through the sky, heading back to base. Evander and Aydan fly closely at my sides, and Zane is just behind me. Even so, I can smell Zane as strongly as I can smell Evander and Aydan. His crisp, cool scent that reminds me of winter seems to surround me. I like it. Probably too much. Definitely too much given my complicated situation.

Glancing back at him, I’m struck by how different he looks from Aydan and Evander. He’s a little bit smaller, and his body is far sleeker than ours. While Aydan and Evander are all sharp lines and harsh edges, Zane is softer, smoother, like ice. And while in human form his hair was a unique white and pale blue color, he’s now a dragon with the same coloring across his glossy scales. Then there are the spikes across his spine. They looked like shards of glass instead of like spines. It’s beautiful and unique.

Eyes up ahead, Aydan tells me gruffly.

I huff, focusing on where I’m going.I’m sorry. I was just noticing how different Zane looks from us.

Zane’s voice is amused in my mind. That’s because I am an ice dragon. We are built for the cold and the water. You fire dragons are not.

Are there a lot of different kinds of dragons?I ask.

Many, he confirms. But most dragons are fire dragons.

We continue flying, and I keep glancing back. Zane does seem to… glide through the air in a way we don’t.Is it weird that he’s more graceful than me?I internally laugh. I have bigger things to focus on.

Zane’s appearance hadn’t even given me time to talk to Aydan and Evander about what happened last night. Just the thought of it makes my body feel hot and tense. If I thought I enjoyed sex with each of them before, it’s nothing compared to sex with both of them. I just have to hope they’re not filled with regret over our drunken decision, because I definitely want to do that again in the future.

Behind me, Zane flies closer.

Instantly, Evander and Aydan are there, forcing him away from me. Zane goes without a fight, but there’s tension between them.

Whatever you two did last night, it wasn’t enough to curb her arousal, Zane says, sounding amused.

If I could, my cheeks would be bright pink from embarrassment.I’m not aroused.

We can all smell you, Aydan says, a touch of frustration in his voice.

I’m even more embarrassed.

What are you thinking about?Evander asks, but I can’t tell what he’s thinking.

I decide to be honest.Last night.

Oh, Evander says, and I can feel Aydan waiting.

Yeah, I was just wondering if it’s going to happen again.

There’s silence in my mind until Zane speaks,It will. Many, many more times. Trust me.
