”They do,” Byron agreed.

I said, “The four of us have got something together. But the two of them…The two of them…”I trailed off.The distant look on Byron’s face said he knew just what I was saying.

“It’s not that they’d want to hurt us, or shut us out,” said Byron.“The four of us are exactly that—the four of us and I don’t expect that to change. But Elliot and Jenna…are the two of them.”

”You’re all right with that, aren’t you?” I asked.

“Is Elliot still our friend? Will he always be our friend?”

”Yeah.He is.”

”And do we both care about Jenna?”

”More than I ever expected to care about anything,” I admitted.

”Well, then,” said Byron.“They’re okay with us and we’re okay with them; and we’re okay with the four of us.Right?”

”Right,” I agreed, nodding, more sure about that than I was about anything else in my life just now. Then I mentioned, “You know, after I’m done with my shift and you’re done administrating with the legislators tonight, we could go on over to Elliot’s and…”

”No,” said Byron, clapping me on the shoulder again.“Not tonight. They don’t get many nights without the two of us.We’ll have lots more time with them.Let’s let the two love lizards have the night to themselves.”

”Yeah,” I agreed, nodding.

He picked up his foil and his mask and said, “Ready to go one more?”

I took up my own gear and answered, “One more time.”

And together we went dragon and masked up again for another round. Before the foils started swirling again, for a second I wondered at the back of my mind how many rounds Elliot and Jenna had gone so far.

CHAPTER 3

Jenna

As soon as we were in the door of his apartment and Byron and Cade kissed me and let themselves out, Elliot had his sleeveless top off, exposing not only the mighty guns of his arms, but the hairy musculature of his pecs and abs.My dragon athlete was not one to waste time.He let me pick up my lightest bag while he got the other two, and we carried them directly to his bedroom.Once we were in there, I set down the one bag and took off my backpack while he set down the other bags, and I settled down and kicked off my shoes on the edge of his bed—and just sat there, lost in thoughts that had just occurred to me.

The shirtless Elliot, pulling off his boots, with a telltale bulge in the crotch of his tight-fitting bottoms, gave me a puzzled look that I barely noticed.“Um…Jenna, you’re gonna need your clothes off for this.”

I glanced over at him, looking magnificent as always in only the bottom of his clothes, but not as magnificent as he was about to look, and said, “Oh, sorry.”Starting to unseal my top, I said, “I just had something on my mind.”

Undoing the seal on his last garment, he said, “I hope it’s the same thing that I’ve got on my mind.”

”Actually,” I said, “I was thinking about a story from Earth.”

Scratching his head, Elliot replied, “Is this another story about the imaginary dragons at the end of the world?”

That made me laugh a little.“No, a different story. As a matter of fact, it’s a story about a girl who traveled from Earth to another world and met three interesting guys there.”

He went to the edge of the bed and dropped down to his knees in front of me.I had stopped undoing my top, so he continued the job for me and pulled it open and back, exposing my shoulders.“So, the three guys in the other world got the Earth girl into bed and were so good that she never wanted to get out of bed again, and they lived happily ever after; the end.”

As Elliot undid my halter and pulled it off from under my top, baring my breasts, I laughed again.“No,” I said.“This is not that kind of story.”

Elliot stopped undressing me and gave me a funny, curious look.“Okay.Tell me the story.”

“Well,” I began, “there was this girl who lived on a farm, and there was a tornado, and it ripped her house out of the ground and threw it over the rainbow. It landed in this strange land, and there were these three guys who helped her get home and protected her from a witch…”

”A witch?” Elliot cut in.

“Yes, there was this witch who wanted her magic slippers…”
