“Stop looking at me like that!” I barked.

He raised an eyebrow as he ambled toward the sofa. “Like what?”

“Like you want to eat me for breakfast,” I muttered.

“The idea has merit.”

“Quit being cute, Soren.”

He grinned. “You think I’m cute?”

I scowled. “How would your wife feel if she knew you were flirting with me? Kissing me? How can you do that to your kids?” I was yelling by the time I finished. Blinking rapidly to hold back my tears, I hopped up to pace between the couch and the fireplace.

Soren frowned, his brow furrowing low over his eyes. “Wife? What the hell are you talking about?”

I stopped and slammed my fists onto my hips. “Don’t act like you haven’t a clue what I’m talking about, Soren. I heard you talking to her…to Lulu.”

Soren blinked at me, then tossed his head back and roared with laughter.

My jaw literally dropped, and I watched him practically roll around on the couch in disbelief.

“Babe,” he uttered when he’d mostly caught his breath. “There is a reason people shouldn’t eavesdrop.”

“Don’t call me babe, you jerk.”

“Okay. Baby, how much of my conversation did you hear?” His expression was still filled with mirth, and my anger was slowly turning into confusion.

“Um, most of it. I might have missed some in the middle…”

He stood and prowled toward me. “So you missed the part where she admitted I was the smartest, most awesome big brother she’s ever had?”

“I—um…what?” He’d knocked the wind right out of my sails.

“And it sounds like you didn’t listen in on the conversation I had with my munchkins. Owen is three, and he calls me Uncle Sowen. Avery is two, so my moniker is currently Unca So. I’m hoping that one doesn’t stick.”

I hadn’t even realized I was backing up until I hit the freezing-cold window and jumped, practically landing in Soren’s arms.

He took hold of my hips and steered me around until I crowded up against a wall instead.

“Lulu is your sister?” I squeaked, feeling like the world’s biggest moron.

Soren nodded, then bent his head so our noses were almost touching. “You want to tell me what that was all about, Cammie?”

“Um…” I turned my head to stare over his shoulder, but he lightly pinched my chin between his thumb and forefinger, forcing me to look at him. “I just felt bad for her. You know, on her behalf.”

“You know what I think?” he rumbled in a low, sexy voice that sent a shiver down my spine.

“This is all just a big misunderstanding?” I suggested with an overly innocent smile.

Crowding me back just a little more, he swallowed up any remaining space between us. “I think you were jealous.”

His tone was a little smug, but his brown eyes were full of heat as they dropped to my lips.

“Jealous? I’m not…we’re not…of course I wasn’t…”

“You’re cute when you get flustered,” he murmured as he turned my head to the side and placed his lips on my neck. He kissed his way up to my ear, then nibbled my lobe before whispering, “But seeing you get jealous and possessive of me…Damn, baby. You’re sexy as fuck when you’re lit up with fire.”

A tiny moan escaped my mouth when he tugged my earlobe between his teeth again.
